Products I Regret Buying

by Mehak Shahani on October 7, 2010

Being part of the beauty blogging community means constant product raves and temptations to purchase new ones. There are however some products that you spend some money on and they just dont do anything  for you- those dont get talked about that much, so i shall be giving them some much deserved attention in this post.
Quick note: I have nothing against these brands, some of the brands make amazing products- these are just individual ones that did not work for me.

1. Body Shop Shimmering bronzer stick
I wasnt convinced on this in the TBS store, but the sales woman convinced my mom about how this will give her a “bronze glow” to her body and she fell for it hook, line and sinker. It costed Rs 1095 which is A LOT of money for that elusive bronze glow.
Why i dont like it- It is nothing but a glass tube containing gold/copper  glitter, there is no “bronzeness” or colour or sheen in this. Its just cheap glitter- you can go to a crafts store and buy that for 10 bux! Very  dissapointing

2. Nivea Pinkish Boost SPF15
This is a relatively cheap product so it didnt burn too much of a hole in my pocket, but any money wasted is a bit of a heartburn.
Why i dont like it- The colour is a barbie doll  pink which is nice to look at but it looks completely artificial on my darker lips, it doesnt blend in to my lip colour but stands out like i am obviously wearing a lip balm (not in a good way) and it doesnt moisturize enough for me  either. This will probably be great for people with naturally pink lips, as this goes on very sheer with hints of barbie doll esque pinkness

3.Enliven Shampoo
Pic from
I bought this for two reasons- one, the packaging was sleek and it seemed like a lot of product in there. Two, and more importantly, it said coconut and vanilla on the bottle- two words which will immediately make me jump up and take notice.
Why i dont like it: I dont know why it says coconut and vanilla on the bottle when it actually smells nothing, NOTHING like it. It smells of nothing actually- the only thig the smell remind me of is  those tiny shampoo bottles you get in hotels?. Plus it severely dries out my already dry hair- so major disapointment.  I have to say though that this might work for you if you have oily hair with a lot of residue build up- because this does manage to remove build up, its just not for me cos its overly drying.

4.Maybelline Dream Mousse foundation

Maybelline is my favourite drugstore brand, but i think they messed up horribly with this one. The foundation is a “whipped” consistency of cream making it easy to blend in etc. Why i dont like it: It gives me a completely cakey look to the face, and stands out artificially, plus this broke me out and i dont even have sensitive skin. Finding a match for my skin was difficult as well and i just didnt enjoy putting this on my face- it just seemed grainy and cheap quality. I know a lot of people love this product but it just didnt do anything for me. I do own the Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Peach satin and thats much better than the foundation

5.Revlon Street Wear Satin Smooth Lip Balm :

This was one of the mistakes you make when yr a “make up ” virgin. You get taken in by the cool advertisements on tv and all the bright purple displays.
Why i dont like it : This thing is like wax in a lipstick case. Its like putting a grainy melted candle on your lips that is neither moisturizing not flattering to wear. The colour is a bright pink- red (another mistake as a make up virgin-picking up only pink shades),but honestly its just an aweful consistency and the colour just kind of drags on and is streaky.. Ugh.

I have neever been moved by foundation or powders but it's only lip balms, eye liners, kajals and mascaras.

Nivea pinking boost is not liked by a lot but I like it and still using it though I have darker lips but it doesn't make me or someone else feel that I'm wearing some color. So it works for me!! I am yet to buy satin lip bam by revlon. But I guess I'll definitely gve it a second thought before buying at store (after reading your reviews).

I too felt cheated big time when I bought the Body Shop Bronzer(supposedly) thingie..sigh..Planning to give it to some kid who can use it in crafts…LOL

I like bronzers, but mostly its better to use loose powder for the bronzed look.
Lip balms I usually don't experiment with, Bodyshop in all flavours :)

And also thanks to Tanveer, who made me save the blunder of buying maybelline dream mousse…

good job dear :D

I too hated the maybelline dream matt mousse. Had the same problems as you, it went on too thick, appeared chalky, was super tough to blend & emphasised my dry areas as well as my pores. I look better barefaced when compared to this dud.

Oh my list would be endless :P
I'll stay away from these products.

@Tanveer: Have you tried the lakme face magic souffle? I quite like it even though i need to moisturize before using it…

@Rentu: A lot of people love nivea pinkish boost, maybe it will work for you, see some swatches and decide. Otherwise buy the nivea fruity shine. Thats really nice

Tanveer Parmar October 8, 2010 at 10:20 am

Nope, I never tried the souffle.. I will check it out. I think my mom has a pot of this.
