Indian Bridal Wear: The Big Fat Indian Lehengas (Part 1)
I live in a punjabi family. That opening line itself should tell you that we love weddings, we love getting married , we love getting people married, and we love dancing at marriages. Whenever there is an upcoming wedding in the family (or even if there isnt) , my mom and I obsessively scour the internet for lehengas and suits and saree designs. We had this little document file thing on our PC labelled ‘designs’ which we had compiled over 2 years after looking through thousands of crappy photos and finding one little gem. Sadly, 3 computer crashes later, we dont have that anymore. So this is going to be a little series starting now where i will put together my favourite pieces of indian bridal wear. If you google this term, you will realise just how crappy the results come up- all cheap trade show stuff, so hopefully if there is another crazy obsessed person like me this might be helpful to them. Enjoy!!

Both above are lovely Manish Malhotra creations from his latest fashion show. The one on top is such a fun, simple wearable look. I love the skirt and the net dupatta. Perfect for your best friends wedding. The one on the bottom is just breathtaking. Silver and gold beadwork on a beige , gold background and brocade blouse.I love the beading on the dupatta and the whole outfit looks so…ethereal and
I dont know who designed the lehenga above but i love how three contrasting colours- purple, orange and hot pink are used together to create one cohesive, bridal look. The scalloped edges on the dupattas are lovelyand the hanging tassles just add to the whole indian princess theme..
I think the one above is a Ritu Kumar. The work definitely reminds me of it.I just love how understated it is, even with oodles of zari work all over the lehenga, and tuquoise + purple makes for a pretty picture.
Okay, so the low cut neckline might shock your relatives a bit, but how gorgeous is the embroidery and detailing on that kurta? There is an emerald green velvet skirt underneath and the entire outfit comes together very nicely. I am somehow a sucker for georgette sleeves which are see through, with heavy detailing, i am also a sucker for tassles and these contain both of them…love it !
