Two designer heavy weights- Manish Malhotra, and the dapper designer duo- Shantanu & Nikhil were some of the big names to show at Delhi Couture Week 2011 Day 3. Both, with very different shows. While Manish Malhotra combined velvet, gota, chikankari and chiffon with his trademark heavy embellishments, Shantanu & Nikhil’s gowns were a bit of welcome relief in an otherwise ‘Bridal’ dominated couture week. As much as i love and admire Mr.Malhotra, and i would die to have one of those jacketed pieces in my closet i do feel like we have seen enough of the whole velvet trimmings and gota work before..
Manish Malhotra- Delhi Couture Week 2011
The common theme through Manish Malhotra’s show was definitely Jackets, something that has been all over the Couture runway this year. Short ones at JJ Valaya and longer ones on top of lehengas skirts at Manish Malhotra. Those anarkali styles just dont seem to go away either…
Shantanu & Nikhil- Delhi Couture Week 2011
They have a couple of interesting pieces there, and had i wanted a white wedding, i would have loved to wear that halter necked white gown in the centre of the second photograph . I just think we need to give Shantanu & Nikhil credit for not showing lehengas and anarkali’s..its nice to have something different as well. Though I have to add here, that i just dont see that Jacket outfit working for Sonakshi at . Besides, i dont quite understand the concept of actresses and celebrities walking down a runway for a designer anyway.
Aashima & Leena- Delhi Couture Week 2011
Aashima and Leena combined some really gorgeous colors and textures to showcase an extremely wearable collection. Yes, this was bridal wear.. but it was minus the extra bling, and stones- focussing instead on colors and fabrics. The suit on the extreme right in the bottom photograph was my personal favourite
Adarsh Gill also showed at Delhi Couture Week 2011, and it has VERY heavy ornate stuff- i might have some pictures for you guys by tommorow. Honestly i am a bit tired of seeing all the over -embellishments. Yes couture in india to an extent means bridal..but does bridal have to mean Ultra blingy???
