It seems my love for The Body Shop products transcends the smell quotient. I’ve never been a fan of bananas or their smell but I have fallen in love with The Body Shop Banana Conditioner. The body shop range of products has been my favorite for a long time now and one of them is their banana conditioner.

According to The Body Shop site their Banana Conditioner is an “irresistible smelling conditioner that helps nourish the hair, leaving it soft, shiny and manageable. It is made from Community Fair Trade banana puree and 100% post-consumer recycled packaging!” The product is no longer showcased on the India website, but the product is still available in stores.

I initially purchased this conditioner for my sister. She loves the smell of banana. In fact she goes bananas over it. I’ve always found bananas to be slimy, sticky and weird smelling. Hence, I put off trying the conditioner. Every time my sister used this conditioner her hair felt soft and silky and didn’t smell anything like banana. I convinced myself that one trial wouldn’t be torture to my nostrils. Ever since then I have been hooked on to this. The best part for me is that the fragrance doesn’t linger. It fades quickly after washing which I love, though this may be a con for some people who prefer the smell to last longer. Its light weight and yet does a fabulous job of moisturizing my hair. Hence, even if I end up using too much I don’t have to worry about it weighing down my hair. It doesn’t make the hair look too silky but offers a healthy shine. It does a fairly decent job untangling the hair and makes managing hair easier. I have frizzy hair which mostly looks untamed, the conditioner made my hair look good without making it appear limp.

The colour is yellow just like the name suggests. It’s a bit on the expensive side for a conditioner, but the results are admirable and so soft to touch. Another con is the packaging; it becomes tough to remove the conditioner when you are almost through with the bottle. Wish body shop would opt for a bottom opening bottle for their conditioners. To see the full list of ingredients you have to peel a small sticker which is common with every body shop product. For those looking for the silicone free conditioner the banana conditioner is a good try. You can also try the conditioner along with their Banana Shampoo to make the smell last longer.

What I Like
  • It makes my hair soft and silky without weighing down my hair
  • Detangles hair and makes it manageable
  • It has no silicones
What I don’t really like
  • The packaging. It’s tough to get the last bit out.
  • The fragrance – I’m just not a fan of the banana smell.
The banana conditioner is a smelly delight but I adore it every bit much and will continue using it.
Would I recommend it? Yes! If you love the smell of banana you’ll love this even more. If you aren’t a fan of the smell you can still use it as the fragrance doesn’t linger.
Overall Verdict: 4.5/5
