Makeup Trousseau Shopping: What To Put In Your Bridal Makeup Box

by mehak on October 9, 2011

in Bridal Blog, Bridal Makeup

This is hands down, one of the most requested posts ever for me ! I haven’t started doing my own bridal trousseau makeup shopping since the wedding is a while away, but here are some suggestions for those of you who are tieing the knot sometime soon. I have tried to include all different types of brands and range of prices to give a lot of options. You can choose depending on your budget!

The most important thing to keep in mind while choosing a foundation for a bride is that it shuld photograph well. You will be attending a lot of dinners, small functions where you will be clicked. There are tons of great foundations that look fabulous in real life but dont photograph well at all (L’oreal Matte Morphose). So pick a foundation wisely, ideally anything with medium to high SPF in it should be avoided since that reflects light in snaps.

Everyday Foundation: Ponds Tinted Moisturizer, Lakme Silk Naturelle, Lakme Invisible Finish (All less than 300 rs)

Heavier Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix (Rs 950) , Revlon Colorstay Foundation (Rs 750) ,  Mac Studio Fix Foundation (Rs 1500/-), Chanel Vitalumiere (Rs 2500/-), Body Shop Foundations( Rs 1050/-), Lancome Tient Miracle (Rs 2700/-)

What i Would Buy? Ponds TM for everyday, Bourjois Healthy Mix and Mac Studio Fix for heavier occasions.

Powder/ Compacts
These are really a personal choice – depending on whether you love the matte look or not. If you do have very oily skin, and need a compact to set your foundation then invest in these. Personally i dont  use compacts too much, so they are not a priority for me.

Budget Buys

Lakme Multi Mineral Pure Radiance Compact
Body Shop Loose Powder
Not Such Budget Buys
Mac Mineralize Skin Finish
Mac Studio Fix Powder & Foundation
Estee Lauder Holiday Compacts (These are collectors items really- they are gorgeous to look at )

What Would I Buy: Lakme Multi Mineral Compact (I dont use too much Powder). I do feel like splurging on the Estee Holiday COmpacts so might get those!

Concealers are important for me, and for any bride since a lot of late nights are  involved. But if you have good skin and dont suffer from dark circles, you dnt need to invest very heavily in one

Budget Buys
Colorbar Concealer Stick
Inglot Under Eye Concealer (Rs 690/-)

Not such Budget Buys
Mac Select moisture Cover (Approx Rs 950/-)
YSL Touche Eclat

What Would I Buy: My regular concealer is the Inglot one. But just for kicks, i might get the YSL Touche Eclat since there is so much written about it.

I think you dont need to spend much on these . There are some gorgeous, affordable ones that are just as good as high end ones.

Pencil Eyeliners

Colorbar I glide Pencils in Prunella, Jaded, Truffle, and whichever color catches your fancy (Rs 325/-)
Chambor Dazzle eyeliners (Rs 425/-)
Lakme Forever Silk Eyeliner (Rsa 425/-)
Faces Eye Pencils (Rs 250/-) Thanks Far for reminding me. Had totally forgotten how awesome these were

Gel Liners
L’oreal Gel Liner (Rs 710/-)
Maybelline Gel Liner(only if eyes are not sensitive- this cause my eyes to sting and turn red a lot!)

Liquid Liners:
Dont use too many liquid liners. I have a basic Lakme 9 to 5 one which is okay. Also tried the Colorbar Liquid Eye Liner which was nice

What I would Buy:Colorbar I -Glide, Loreal Gel Liner

Budget Buys
Lakme Earth Rose Trio (Rs 600/-)

Lakme Kiss of a Rose (Rs 400-ish)

Chambor Blushes (Around the same price range as lakme)
Colorbar Blushes – Cinnabar, Just Earth, Peachy Rose (Rs 250/-)
Nyx Powder Blushes- Mocha, Terracotta, Desert Rose (Rs 450/-)

Nyx Cream Blushes- Glow, Tea Rose (Rs 450/-)
Maybelline Apricot Flush (Aorund 200 Rs)

Not Such Budget Buys (All 1100/-)
Mac Peaches

Mac Fleur Power
Mac Springsheen
Mac Ambering Rose Blush
Mac Peachykeen
Mac Pinch Me
Mac Sunbasque

What Would I Buy: I am a blush fiend! I would get both Lakme ones, some Colorbar ones (Peachy Rose and Just Earth), as well as Mac Peaches, Fleur Power, Pinch Me, Sunbasque, Springsheen. For Cream i would pick the Nyx ones.

Budget Buys
Lakme Lip love in Aphrodite Blush (Use this A LOT!)

Lakme Lip love in Rose Kissed (Use this A LOT!)
Maybelline My Mahogany
Maybelline Blushing Brunette
Maybelline Hooked on Pink lipstick
Colorbar Diva Lipsticks

Bourjois So Delicate Lip Cream
Chambor Silk Touch Lipsticks

Not such budget buys
Mac Cosmo Lipstick
Mac Capricious Lipstick
Mac Creme in Your Coffee Lipstick
Mac Mocha Lipstick
Mac Plumful Lipstick
Mac Twig Lipstick
Mac Fast Play Lipstick
Mac Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick
Chanel Rouge Coco Shines
YSL Rouge Volupte
Lancome Absolu Nu

What would i buy? Definitely would buy Maybelline My Mahogany, Lakme Aphrodite Blush & Rose Kissed as well as Mac Cosmo, Viva Glam Cyndi,  Twig, Bourjois So Delicate Lip creams. Since i would be doing bridal shopping, and i can splurge- i would DEFINITELY get one lipstick from Chanel/ YSL and Lancome as well.

Personally, i dont like spending too much on lipglosses. I am a lipstick girl, so i would pick from the following drugstore brands

Chambor Glitzy Glosses

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloses
Maybelline Colorsensational Lipglosses

What would i buy?  Chambor Glitzy Glosses and Maybelline Colorsensational Lipglosses

I believe in going cheap with mascara. They all dry out anyway
Budget Buys
Maybelline Collosal Volume

Max factor False Lash Effect

Not Such Budget Buys
Lancome Definicils Mascara
Lancome Hypnose Mascara
Estee Lauder Mascara (The new launch i dont remember the name)

What WOuld I buy: Maybelline COllosal Volume

I think its best to buy eyeshadows in palette form. Personally for me, Inglot is a great option for brides to be. Each eyeshadow costs Rs 300/- so you can get 5 for 1500/- and spend  a little more on an empty palette. I think a bride needs a gold eyeshadow, a peachy shimmery eyeshadow, a neutral beige eyeshadow, a dark brown for crease , a green eyeshadow and a purple eyeshadow

Budget Buys
Faces I-Shine Quartets (Rs 425 for 4 eyeshadows)
Inglot Freedom System eyeshadows (Rs 300 for each eyeshadow)
Revlon Custom Eyes Naturally Glamorous Eyeshadow Palette (Rs 625/-)
Nyx Eyeshadow Palette- For Brown Eyes

Not such Budget Buys

Mac Woodwinked (Golden Brown)
Mac Expensive Pink (love this!) (Peachy Pink Gold)
Mac Amber Lights (Bright Gold)
Mac Ricepaper  (Shimmery White- for inner corner)
Mac Twinks (Deep Brown)
Mac Humid (Mossy Green)
Mac Stars and Rockets (Purple)
Mac Plum Dressing(Purple)

What Would I Buy: I would definitely get  MAC Expensive pink since i love wearing that with indian wear. Apart from that i would just choose colors from Inglot since its so much more affordable and the same quality! . I might buy a Chanel / Guerlain Quad as collector item though!

Eyeshadow Bases/ primers
Nyx Eyeshadow Base

Max Paintpots
Inglot Eye Makeup base

What Would I Buy: All three are great but i think i will invest in a paint pot. Nyx Eyeshadow Base is second option.

Budget Buys

Colorbar Highlighter Pen (Rs 325/-)
Revlon Skin Lights (Rs 650/-)

Not Such Budget Buys
Dior Skin Shimmer Highlighter (Rs 2000/-)

What Would I Buy: Im happy with my Colorbar Highlighter Pen. Also,  i use eyeshadows a lot for highlighting so would be good with those. I do love the Dior Skin Shimmers – they are totally fab, so if im feeling rich i may get those but really its not necessary.

Brushes & Tools

Budget Brushes
Vega Professional (Not the regular ones- the professional range)
Body Shop Brushes (Not exactly budget, but affordable)
Nyx Brushes
QVS Brushes & eyelash curler (Available at New U)

Not such budget Brushes

Mac Brushes (Mac 239, Mac 224, Mac 217)
Inglot Brushes
Sigma F80 Kabuki Brush (For Foundation)
Sigma Eyeshadow Brushes

What Would I buy: I would buy the Mac 239 for picking up color, Vega Professional for crease and blending, and some   more Body Shop for Blending eyeshadows. For Blush brushes, any would do. For Foundation i would pick a high quality kabuki- the Sigma F80 Kabuki is my favourite and it really makes a difference to how well your foundation is applied. Also would definitely get an eyelash curler. It makes a world of a difference.

Kajal Pencils

Budget Buys
Lakme Black Satin kajal
Maybelline Collosal Volume Kajal
Lotus Herbals Kajal
Elle 18 Kajal

Non Budget Buys
Mac Smoulder Eye Kohl
Clinique Quickliner

What would i buy: Lakme Black Satin, and CLinique (only because all other pencils make my eyes red and scratchy and CLinique doesn’t)

Nailpolishes: Ill stock up on Colorbar!!
Sindoor: Lakme Jewel Sindoor (Thanks anonymous)

Hi mehak. I’m an avid reader of your blog since a very long time and am getting married in december so finally buying make up and not just reading. Ok so now I have to buy a lottt of makeup.. both from my side and my in laws and I have no idea where to start! Should I follow your list.. or go for the mac bridal trousseau thing? Now sephora and bobbi brown are also here so I’m like super confused.. not very familiar with make up.. I just use a basic foundation and a mac pinkish blush or benetint with a staple black eyeliner. Phew sorry for the long post but would be glad for some help. .thanksss xxx

mehak August 30, 2013 at 2:08 pm

HI Tanvi,
Get the mac bridal trousseau tihng if confused – its a neat alternative ! and you wont have to roam about a zillion places!

Priya August 31, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Hi Mehak,

I just happened to come across your blog and am glad I did! I am an absolutely no makeup person and have zero idea abt make up in general! :( I am getting married in December and need to buy make up for myself and am absolutely clueless! This is a list from 2011 and was wondering if there is an updated list with all the new products that keep coming in the market! Would also like to know that if I buy all or most of my products from Mac how much would it cost me? Would really appreciate if you could help! Thanks a ton!

– Priya :)
