Mac Spice Lip Liner Review & Swatch

Whether or not you were a spice girl fan, if you were a teenager in the nineties you would have definitely gotten together with your girlfriends at some point of time, held your hairbrush as a microphone  and sang “YO Tell me what you want, what you really really want.. ….If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends, making love forever..friendship never enndddsss” . (I have no idea whether those are the correct lyrics, but i suffer from “Always singing wrong lyrics that dont make sense syndrome”) . Any how, let me introduce you to a spice girl of my own- the Mac Spice Lip Liner Pencil. If she were in the actual band, she would probably be “Versatile Spice”!

Mac Claims about Mac Spice Lip Liner :” A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades.”

Mac Spice Lip Pencil- The Color

Spice is an apt name for this Mac Lip Pencil because the color is like that of cinnamon (Mmmm Cinnamon yumm). It is a Warm , toffee color and even though Mac describes this shade as a pink cinnamon stick the pink is really not that obvious! Spice is the kind of color that most indian girls can just throw on with their everyday pinky brown lipsticks, and duskier girls can sport as a lovely nude lip pencil! Me  thinks if you want a versatile lip liner to go with your nudes , browns and even very  light pinks then our “Versatile Spice” will sing just the right song for your lips! It will obviously not work with a brighter pink or red, but you cant have everything now can you! It is a shade though, that i dont think will be very hard to find a dupe of . Im sure you will be able to find a similar shade in Nyx or Chambor.

General Thoughts on Mac Lip Pencils

I love Mac Lip pencils for how creamy and pigmented they are ! . Like all lip pencils should, they elongate the wear time of my lipstick by a good amount of time. I do however feel like they are just not moisturizing, and they do dry out my lips a slight bit. Its kind of surprising that they dry out like that because on application i didnt really find this dry and stiff. Infact, it really did glide on easily. Considering i use these only as lip liners and not as lip bases for lipsticks, im pretty okay with that!!! I also like that they can be sharpened to that fine tip very easily with most sharpeners and they dont break. Theses are quite long too so you would be able to get more than enough product out of these!

Mac Spice Lip Liner Swatch

Overall Review: A-

Product:4/5, Pigmentation:4.5/5, Texture: 3.5/5, Longevity:5/5, Price vs Value & Packaging: 4/5

Price: Rs 820/- for 1.5 gms

Recommendation: Mac Spice Lip Pencil is such a great color for Indian Skin tones, since we wear so much of those pinky brown or brown lipsticks. This will work as a nice everyday shade of lip liner for most medium skintones, and a somewhat more nude lip liner on darker ones. Its definitely one of my MAC super hero’s, though i have to admit it is dupable and isnt very moisturizing!

*Talking about wrong lyrics. I used to sing “Aap jaisa koi meri zindagi me aae to baap ban jae” till my horrified mom told me to shut up

Kritika January 22, 2012 at 2:45 am

It really is and that’s the first thought that came to my head!! So glad you also feel the same. I have Nyx Natural and it looks a lot like thiss . But the Nyx one really really dries out your lips.
