Maybelline Clear Glow BB Cream Review

Unless you have been living under a rock, or are a creature belonging to the male species you would have heard about the Maybelline Clear Glow Bright Benefit Cream or Maybelline BB Cream in India. Ofcourse, if you are like my mom you would just think that BB cream is the newest version of Blackberry, but since she also thinks that Smurfs are cute blue sardars, we wil treat her as an exception . So i did a bit of a test run with this BB Cream and i have quite a bit to say on it!

So what are BB CReams? Essentially BB Creams or Blemish Balm Creams are a Korean Concept, they are supposed to be multi use products combining moisturization, anti ageing, concealing, mattifying, as well as giving you all the benefits of sunblock and a tinted moisturizer. Maybelline BB Cream is not really a true BB Cream in the Korean sense, but lets judge it on its own merit of what it delivers…

Shades Available: Nude, Radiance & Natural

My view on the Maybelline Clear Glow BB Cream

Consistency & Application: Once you get over the cuteness of the packaging (metallic pink cap with a teal blue body= adorable), there are a ton of really unique things about this. First of all,  i use the shade Nude which is apparently the darkest shade, but its a really good shade match for my medium skin, which makes me wonder what shade the very dusky girls would wear. The consistency is slightly thicker than other tinted moisturizers i have tried and definitely thicker than my favourite Ponds Tinted Moisturizer. It also takes a little while to blend out, because its not exactly runny and liquidy so you need to work those fingers, or atleast i needed to.

Initial Thoughts:When i first wore the Maybelline BB Cream i thought- Oh my god, my skin looks so matte and white. Eeeks i look like Casper the friendly Ghost!!!. But apparently thats normal because the cream actually takes a while to sink in and get absorbed into the skin . This settles down in about fifteen minutes, the matte and white effects goes away and the Maybelline BB Cream actually delivers some hydration and dewy finish on the cheeks. It also provides pretty decent coverage- not like that of a foundation ,  but perfect for everyday wear- you can definitely see that your skin is more even with all your splotchiness and discoloration sort of hidden, and with a glowy finish.

Finish & Wear: The BB cream lasts me an entire work day of about 8 hours and makes sure my skin looks dewy throughout. I love the fact that it has an SPF, and yet still manages to photograph pretty well so thumbs up for that. However, do remember i have normal-dry skin, i honestly do not know how much this would work for those with oily skin because at the end of 4 hours of wear i can see a bit of shine on my nose and forehead. I am actually okay with that, but if you have naturally oily skin, that shine might get out of control * like shiny disco ball*! Another thing to note is that it does not work on extreme dry areas of flaky skin either- like areas around my forehead where my skin is very flaky i need to moisturize before putting this on or it exaggerates those areas as well with the flakiness looking pretty bad.

Maybelline  created a really tiny bottle but you dont need a lot  of this, infact i suggest you experiment with the quantity you need because you get vastly different results, and i would probably repurchase this.

Excuse the tired face- this is after a day of work

The Good about the Maybelline BB Cream then:

  • Nice Glowy Finish
  • Good Coverage for a Tinted Moisturizer- evens out the skin tone
  • Wears long
  • Good Shade Match
  • Very Convenient Nozzle Packaging

The Not so Good:

  • Might get too shiny for oily skin
  • Does not work on  extreme areas of flaky skin
  • Needs a bit of work blending

Overall Verdict :3.5/5 or B+

Product:3.5/5, Coverage: 4/5, Texture: 3/5, Longevity:3.5/5, Packaging & Value:4/5

Price: Rs 199 for 18 ml

Will I Repurchase: Yes

Recommendation: I quite  liked the Maybelline BB Cream. Its a  slightly thick liquid which takes some time to blend and settle into  the skin (you need to be patient)-It provides decent coverage for everyday wear and a lovely glowy, dewy finish which i really like.. Im not sure how this would fare with oily skin, because after about 5hours  it might get a bit too shiny if you are an oil producing factory yourself, specially in summer months( From the comments below the oily skinned girls have said its fine with a compact on top) .Also while it does hydrate my skin to a slight degree, some areas of extreme dryness remain flaky and dry  . Its not a wonder must-have product, but for the price i think its definitely worth  looking into.

I like ponds better…Easier to work with and blend and suits everyone!

Sangeeta February 12, 2012 at 10:06 am

I have oily skin and it works for me. Just pat on some compact or powder on top of the BB cream and you are all set.

mehak February 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Monisha July 31, 2012 at 10:29 am

Sunandha February 12, 2012 at 10:46 am

Not suitable for all complexions. . . Definitely not mine. was hoping to get this. Have to try Ponds tinted moisturizer.

mehak February 12, 2012 at 5:31 pm

If you have oily skin then you can top it with the Compact and it works…thats what the commentators r telling me

Sunandha February 13, 2012 at 5:00 pm

yeah but the SA told him its not my shade :( thats the problem.

Sunandha February 13, 2012 at 5:01 pm

yeah but the SA told me its not my shade thats the problem.

janisj. February 12, 2012 at 10:51 am

ya i bought it too..during the 20% sale on maybeline….while i love the SPF factor, i still love my Ponds TM way more…i dont know maybe its the white cast {i kept asking my friend after aplying it am i looking too white? ghostly/ghastly?} OR thats its not really a BB cream, i cant really decide if i love it not!!!

mehak February 12, 2012 at 5:33 pm

I agree Ponds TM is an A+ product for me, but this is a decent one…ya the whitish cast really does go away after about 15 min…
Which shade r u using? Iv seen a lot of people buy th radiance shade but i really think it might be too light…

janisj. February 12, 2012 at 6:01 pm

nopes i have natural….though i was thinking of buying radiance considering what a sucke i am for brightening/glow from within skin!!!!
and sorry for spamming ur comment with that new to comment luv!!!

Gauri February 12, 2012 at 2:05 pm

I liked it. It looks good. The color somehow makes me think of cappuccinos.

varshini February 12, 2012 at 3:52 pm

mehak me have me have…radiance :)
I am oily skinned ..its fine oncei top it up some compact:)

Chris February 12, 2012 at 8:57 pm

I think I’m better off trying a Maybelline foundation. My oily skin would allow this to slide right off like a mask. :P

inny February 12, 2012 at 9:10 pm

this one makes you all glowy

makeup chic February 13, 2012 at 4:40 am

i have tried this product and i just loved it. i also makes a good base for foundation when i need a little extra coverage. the best part is that it is so affordable.

Nidhi (Shukla) Pandey February 13, 2012 at 5:58 am

Hi Mahek! I was initially not happy because of the white cast that I got…but after waiting for a little bit more time it got settled. I used it wit my Kaya Sunscreen and it gave me a better result :)

Mehak February 13, 2012 at 6:17 am

Ya the white cast is not a problem, cos that settles down in 5 minutes..Its a nice product i just didnt love it like crazyy like others did. I liked it…

Kejal February 13, 2012 at 8:42 am

mehak February 13, 2012 at 9:00 am

Shruti February 13, 2012 at 12:21 pm

jyoti February 14, 2012 at 5:11 am

Hey mehak.try natural 03. thts the lightest shade bt some how does not look ashy on me.I tried all the 3 shades at the counter and 01 & 02 were very pink for my warm yellow toned skin. and i feel we bot hare the same shade. So 03 should work for u.

Btw i have not used ponds TM but i am luving this BB cream very much. :)

Vaishnavi February 14, 2012 at 5:34 am

marlin February 15, 2012 at 7:09 am

I have oily skin and it works for me. Just pat on some compact or powder on top of the BB cream and i m set for work

Karishma February 16, 2012 at 3:25 pm

I have just bought it today, and i like it!

Indu February 18, 2012 at 4:57 pm

I have normal-combination skin. It’s usually fuss-free and tends to get a wee bit oily around the T zone. But THIS IS BAD FOR ME. My nose has a gazillion tiny bumps on it. It caused some skin to flake. And my face, which NEVER breaks out, has around 10 pimples all over. TERRIBLE. (after 3 days’ use)

mehak February 18, 2012 at 5:36 pm

Ouch !!!! Yes, thats kind of why i am not all gaga about it…though it works on me, i dont think it does all its functions that its supposed to do that well…

Indu March 12, 2012 at 1:59 pm

I still have the goddamn acne. Damn maybelline, it screwed my skin up! :(

shalini February 19, 2012 at 12:53 pm

I dont know but when SA swatched and blended it on my hand it looked bit greyish so I didn’t buy it … I think choosing a shade would be a challenge

rosyland February 21, 2012 at 9:59 pm

where i can purchase it in india

farheen April 27, 2012 at 3:31 pm

mehak May 2, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Hey nice review….n gud to hear it suited u…but it didnt suit me…hers ma review.

Archana May 15, 2012 at 12:46 am

hey all… i hve tanned skin tone. which shade shud i prefer?? which must be kinda showing bright!

Renita Ghosh May 22, 2012 at 9:30 am

I love the review, so detailed! I have swarthy complexion but since I have to go out a lot, I tan easily. I do apply a thin layer of foundation with SPF, but that at times (midday) does not help. Off late what I have been doing is mixing the foundation with Parachute’s new summer variant – summerfresh. It mixes well and since it has mint in it, I don’t have to use another sunscreen coat on my face. It has been helping quite well, though wearing sunglasses and using an umbrella is mandatory in the harsh summer sun! Right?

Maansi May 28, 2012 at 4:11 pm

hey ponds TM still available in market…??
I heard dat dey hav stopped it…
What do u think can be a good replacemnt for ponds tm!

mehak May 28, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Hi Maansi

I think loreal has a TM , but iv not tried it. There is really no rpelacement for ponds though :( :(

Maansi May 29, 2012 at 10:00 am

Ohhhhhh…:( :(…
Wat to use now…!:O
I think..ll hav to probably rap in dis BB cream den!

Shruti June 21, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Hi – what a lovely blog! It’s the first time I’ve seen an Indian beauty blog (I don’t live in India BTW). Just to add to your review. There are many Korean women in the expat community where I live and they all use BB cream BUT with a topping of powder / compact powder on top. That takes care of the shine factor. I do the same and am so so happy since I started using Garnier BB cream.

Aparna June 27, 2012 at 12:12 pm

hi there.. lovely blog with detailed wheatish color, i have oily skin, my skin has acne marks n sme small pits. will this bb cream will set this up? which shade should i choose for my skin mehak? is this product perfect for all skin types? no side effects? which shade should i choose? nude 01? u said radiance n natural are bit shiny..

rohini July 12, 2012 at 4:57 pm

Fashion Ista July 29, 2012 at 1:33 am

Hi ,I tried the marcelle bb cream its great, a must try.It comes with three shades, for asian tones i would suggest medium to dark.

Smriti August 1, 2012 at 12:15 am

Hey! When i used it i started sweating and eventually whole my make up got smudged :'(
i cannot use any foundation… what to do?

BeautyIndia August 30, 2012 at 11:27 am
