The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil

Guest Review by Sangeeta

Don’t you just dread the days when you wake up to find yourself playing join the dots on your face? I detest those days. The tiny dots look icky, red, and painful to say the least. I’d heard so much about tea tree oil and how it helps with acne and acne scars, and knowing that The Body Shop has a whole range of tea tree oil products I picked up this product.

According to The Body Shop site their Tea Tree oil is “A natural solution to help keep skin looking clear. Helps soothe and clear blemishes. Apply this directly to skin at first sign of outbreak. Made with 15% Tea Tree Oil. Our Tea Tree Oil contains the following key ingredients: Community Trade organic tea tree oil from Kenya – an ingredient renowned for its anti-bacterial benefits, an infusion perfect to help blemished skin; Tamanu Oil from Madagascar – traditionally used to promote healthy-looking skin and has fantastic skin moisturising properties; Lemon Tea Tree from Kenya – Anti-bacterial to give the products a zesty fragrance”

I purchased The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil with the notion that it will help clear the few zits that pop up every now and then, and also clear the stubborn marks I have. I’ve used this as a spot treatment and applied it directly on the areas with my finger tips; alternatively you can also use a cotton swab to do the same. But this may result in wastage as the cotton will draw some of the oil. I’ve also used this along with my face packs. It helped dry out the zits to a certain level. It wasn’t over drying, but then again my skin is quite oily. Dry skin people may require extra moisturization while using this. The pricing is quite high for the quantity, even though you’ll use only a small amount every time. The oil has a strong smell which I presume is Tea Tree oil smell, I didn’t mind it but some might find it over powering. It stings a bit on direct application. My pimples dried a bit, but I didn’t see any dramatic change. It didn’t help clear the scars either. I feel that the body shop tea tree face mask does a better job at this. Having read that tea tree oil does wonders this was a letdown and definitely not the magic product I am searching for.

What I Like about TBS Tea Tree Oil

  • The nozzle – only a small quantity gets out. So you don’t have to worry about product wastage. This also makes it hygienic.
  • Dries out the pimples to a certain level, but not too drying at the same time.

What I don’t really like  about TBS Tea Tree Oil

  • The strong tea tree smell – or what I assume is tea tree oil smell
  • Stings a bit
  • It is expensive
  • Didn’t calm my breakouts as much as I expected it to
  • Hasn’t cleared my skin
  • The nozzle extends inwards. So, towards the end its very tough to remove the last few drops

Overall Verdict :B-

Price: Rs. 445/- from the Body Shop India

Recommendation: The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil hasn’t helped me much to clear out my spots or calm them so this was a bit of a dissapointment , but you’d never know it might work for you.

I have quite a few products from their tea tree range. The face wash controls oil but doesn’t do anything to pre-existing acne

My sister actually has tried the entire tea tree range, and it doesnt suit her too much either. She swears by TBS Seaweed range!

I want to try their seaweed range. It sounds interesting.

It clears the skin and gives an oil free skin but doesn’t clear the blemishes at all
