Guest Review by Sristi (Medium Skin tone, Normal to Oily Skin)
One look at celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, and you’ve got to wonder how they look so darn stunning in a bright red lipstick . I’ve always wanted to sport red lips, but inevitably shied away, either because it draws unwanted looks or I wasn’t too sure if I’d be able to pull it off. After about a year of thinking and re-thinking, I decided to invest in the most inexpensive red lipstick that I found in the market just to see how the color looks on me. I bought the Lakme Enrich Lipcolor Classic No. 352 in shade Cherry. And, to my pleasant surprise, it turned out to be a decent investment.
What Lakme Claims?
Product Info – Deep conditioning lipcolor enriched with Vitamin E for softer and smoother lips. Contains strawberry, grape seed, and peach extracts to keep lips nourished and soft. Made in India.
So Lakme Enrich Lipcolor Cherry comes in a sturdy, travel-friendly, though boring packaging. But you can overlook the packaging, considering the fact that they are so very affordable. The lipstick is decently pigmented and you get a nice, opaque coverage in about 2 swipes. It’s not very moisturizing, which is why I’d suggest that you wear it with a lip balm underneath. If you wear it on your bare lips, it has a tendency of settling on the fine lines. But that can be avoided to a certain extent with a lip balm. Texture wise, it’s not very creamy and smooth so it doesnt have that gliding quality that better lipsticks have…definitely needs to improve on the creamy factor !!!
The color is a deep, cherry red. I think Lakme has aptly named it Cherry, since it is just that. It’s a nice bright red and will suit fair to medium skin tones. They say you should always wear red lipstick with a lip liner for that defined look. I’ve kind of always overlooked this and always wear this lipstick without a lip liner. Doesn’t really make much of a difference, IMO. The lipstick gives a nice, satin-y finish and has no shimmer. It stays for about 3-3.5 hours on my lips with light eating and drinking, after which you feel the need for re-application.
Price: – Rs. 225/-
Recommendation: – If you are unsure whether red lipstick will suit you or not, then the Lakme Enrich Lipsticks are good ways to test out shades. This one is a cherry red and shdould look good on fair to medium skintones (Nivedita below mentions that dark skintones look great in it too so there goes). Lakme Lipsticks are well pigmented, but they lack in the texture and longevity department!
