Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Buff

Guest Review by Sristi

Another pink in my stash!! *Slaps her forehead* I have lost count of the number of pink lipstick (similar colors, mind you) I own, but whenever I’m swatching lipsticks at the make-up counters, pinks are the ones that appeal to me the most and I invariably end up buying them. And then I come back home and I find an almost exact shade already in my collection. Ughh! Nevermind! With that said, I cannot deny that the Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture Extreme lipcolor in Shade Buff is a very, very pretty reddish pink lipstick.

What Maybelline Says?

Why You’ll Love It

  • Fall in love with color, all over again: Crisp Color from pure color pigments
  • Creamy Feel, with a built in lip balm
  • SPF 15 for sun protection
  • 16 Captivating Shades

Expert Tip

Apply your lipstick by starting in the center of your lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of your lip for a gorgeously perfect finish.

The lipstick comes in a brown (and boring) packaging with the lipstick name and color indication at the bottom. I really fail to understand as to how this lipstick could possible fall in the brown category. There is nothing brown about this lipstick at all. It would have been a better fit in the red or pink or coral category. The lipstick is very creamy and smooth and glides easily on the lips. Pigmentation is also quite decent. One swipe gives you rich, opaque, creamy coverage and the intensity of color is buildable. In the lip swatch, I have applied 2 swipes of the lipstick and you can very well see that you get an opaque, shiny, moisturized finish. The lipstick does not dry my lips and feels quite comfortable. Considering that the lipstick is called Moisture Extreme, it lives up to its name.

Buff is a beautiful coral pink shade , with a reddish undertone and no shimmer. It’s a very summery shade. I think it would suit fair to medium skin tones. It might not suit darker skin tones just as well. But at the price at which it comes, you can very well try it out and if it doesn’t suit you, not feel too guilty about it.

The staying power of the lipstick is pretty ordinary. It stays on my lips for about 2.5 hours after which it begins to fade away evenly. But, honestly, I don’t mind! The colors in this range are so pretty, and not to forget the price, that I keep going back for more!

  • Sturdy packaging. Cap closes tightly, so travel-friendly.
  • Has almost no fragrance.
  • Uber smooth and creamy.
  • Decent pigmentation. Intensity is buildable, as per your choice.
  • Glides on smoothly on lips. Does not feel heavy on lips.
  • Decently moisturizing.
  • VERY affordable.
  • Claims to contain SPF 15.

  • This lipstick is not BROWN by any means. Maybelline needs to put it in a pink or red packaging.
  • Staying power is ordinary. Stays for about 2.5 hours on my lips.

Rating: B+

Price: Rs. 220.

Will I Repurchase? – Not this shade particularly. But I will definitely check out the other shades.

Recommendation:  Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Buff a very flattering coral pink shade with an eartthy reddish undertone. It’s a very romantic shade and makes you look all dolled up and pretty! :P Fair to medium skin tones should definitely check this one out, but might not suit much darker skin tones.

I love so many lippies from this range but I hate the packaging ! I instantly feel like I’m living in the 80’s when I look a this. Grr.

tannima April 14, 2012 at 6:52 pm

even i hate the packaging.. and my bronze orange broke in 2 days.. :(

Kritika April 14, 2012 at 10:46 pm

Aww Tannima. That’s awful.

Why don’t you try taking the piece that broke off and heating the bottom with a candle and quickly gluing it back in place. It works most of the times.

sristi April 15, 2012 at 9:06 am

Oh that’s bad! Yeah you could follow Kritika’s idea and store it in the fridge later. Maybe then it won’t be so soft.

Oh yay ! So happy for you. Just use it with a light hang to avoid breaking it again :)

And Sristi this really looks nice on you, I’m debating between getting Buff or Coral Pink now.

pandora April 14, 2012 at 6:15 pm

Great review. Agree with it not being brown at all. I’m like you when it comes to buying similar shades of lipsticks. My crime is too many nudes though.

sristi April 15, 2012 at 9:15 am

Oh good to know that there are other people like me! :P

Sukanya April 14, 2012 at 6:31 pm

looks great on your lips………saw this in Ankita’s blog also……..I have swatched this in the store few days back, but dropped it because of their poor lasting power. I have tried two shades from this range…….

sristi April 15, 2012 at 9:19 am

Thanks Tanmayee! I kinda overlook the staying power cuz this range has quite a few pretty shades!!
