Nars Powder Blush in Gilda- Review & Swatches

Guest Post Written by Sophia

“Oh Yeah she was taking me over

Oh Yeah it was the start of the summer….”

While that song titled “Oh Yeah”by Ash was talking about his summer love, im writing those lines for my summer love-I can’t stop raving about  Gilda-Nars Powder blush Gilda sweeties:-)

The ultimate authority in blush, NARS offers the industry’s most iconic shades for cheeks. Natural, healthy-looking color that immediately enlivens the complexion. A light application of even the highest-intensity hues delivers a natural-looking flush.

  • “Best Overall Powder Blush” 2010 & 2011 InStyle “Best Beauty Buys”
  • Silky texture in matte and shimmering shades
  • Micronized powder ensures soft, blendable application
  • Iconic NARS shades

The NARS website describes Gilda as a matte coral with a hint of red.IMO its more of a peachy coral ,I can’t see any red undertones and the blush screams “Summer”. It is a perfect daytime true matte blush which you could easily wear to college or to work for the reason that it looks quite natural and understated. I was a little flabbergasted when I found that my cheeks were radiant in some pics I took for P&B –mind you it has no shimmer at all-don’t have a clue how the guys at Nars formulated a matte blush to provide this kind of a finish or perhaps the lighting was playing tricks on me-but what the heck, I don’t care as long as it makes my face look polished and glowing.

The blush is intensely pigmented and has a very soft texture which means you have to be careful while picking this up with the usual blush brushes (too much and you could end up clowny very soon)-I always advocate using dual fibre brushes since they are easier to work with and the odds of going OTT are pretty much slim. You can blend this in a breeze; the trick is to work with smaller quantities to build up the tint. I feel the colour would suit fair/medium complexions most; however I don’t think it would work for those darker than NC 50.

The staying power is commendable, though not fantastic . Even though you do require frequent touch ups  (drat! my face becomes an oil slick in summer and I cannot live without compacts) the blush still manages to glow through.

Being one of the most coveted blushes around the globe Nars does not disappoint in terms of packaging either. Their blushes come in compact and sturdy cases with a classy matte black rubberized finish. The case also houses a small mirror which comes in handy especially when you are on the go.

To a quick round up of the pros and cons

The Pros:

+++Excellent pigmentation , suitable for most skin tones, matte finish makes it appropriate for wear on all occasions, travel friendly packaging

—Pricey(oh come on its Nars-it ain’t Nars if you got it cheap-unless it was gifted LOL),Not available in India, rubberized  casing = gets dirty in no time

Rating : A or 4.5/5

Would I repurchase? I most certainly will try out other colours.

 Price: USD28$ for 4.8 gms

Recommendation:  Nars Gilda is a peachy coral that will work well with a range of Indian Skintones. It specially flatters medium and light skintones, but if you are darker than say NC 50 you may want to see if this shows up. This blush gives an almost satiny feel to the cheeks, even though its matte so you end up looking quite radiant!! Nars blushes are worth every penny and will last for ages, so Ladies consider it an investment if you could get your hands on one of these
