Kiehls Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser Review
Guest Post by Dhara (NC 41 skintone (medium), and Oily skin)
There are some things in life which never seem to end like chocolate hunger pangs, shopping sprees, boyfriend/husband’s ” you take so long to get ready ! “, mother-in-law’s criticism, K-serials( from beeta zamana) and the worst of all – acne. From the aforementioned, acne is the toughest contender. Whatever treatment you do, whichever dermatologist you visit, this unwanted guest keeps visiting and re-visiting. My latest weapon to fight acne is Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser. A little trivia about the brand : It was founded in 1851 and was introduced in India in 2011 !!
Inspired by Kiehl’s venerable and most enduring preparation, Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, this purifying gel cleanser thoroughly cleans pores and removes traces of dirt, residue and oil which can lead to acne break-outs. Mild cleansing agents are used to formulate a completely oil-free but non-drying preparation which helps keep skin clear of new acne blemishes.
Key ingredients :
Cinnamon bark- Cinnamon Bark Extract is taken from the dried bark of cultivated trees and is considered to be of much higher quality than extract derived from leaves. It contains an essential oil that is not only recognized for its soothing effects, but is also known to have antibacterial properties.
Ginger root– Ginger Root Extract provides gingerols that are known to have soothing properties. It also helps to absorb excess oil.( Taken from Kiehl’s website)
Salicylic acid- Most common ingredient in every acne treatment product.
My experience with Kiehls Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser:
This is one of the best cleansers I have ever used. As the name suggests, it is a bright blue, rather runny gel. Comes in an elongated plastic bottle with a flip open cap. It has a rather different and strong plastic seal on the mouth of the bottle to prevent spillage. It also contains menthol, camphor and sorbitol giving a cooling sensation on use. This cool feeling goes away within 30 seconds. No dry, stretchy feeling is experienced after use. Facial skin literally feels light, clean and smooth.
I can feel my skin breath after I wash my face using this cleanser. While I don’t believe this to ‘cure’ my acne, it will definitely help having an oil free face, hence preventing frequent acne bouts. About 3 drops of the cleanser suffice for my face, giving a bit of lather. This will definitely last me for months. I wish this was brought to India earlier !! Price may be a hurdle for some but most dermatologist recommended face washes that I have used were around the same price range, so you might as well try this one out ! And if you are still apprehensive about dishing out a huge sum for a mere face wash, go ahead and ask for samples. You will definitely buy the bottle ! Availability may be a big con as the Kiehl’s stores are located only in Mumbai and Delhi.
