Mac Rubenesque Paint Pot Swatch and Review

Rubenesque Dictionary Meaning : “ plump or rounded usually in a pleasing or attractive way.”

That meaning makes me giggle, because that’s what i would use to describe my grandma, and the Mac Rubenesque Paint Pot doesn’t look anything like her !!! I like to call this one Wooh-benesque, i don’t know why but it reminds me of high society parties, and air kissing ladies asking me ‘Whats that gorgeous thing on your eyes?’ and ill turn around and tell them “Its Wrroohbenesque Dah-ling!’ . I don’t make sense i know, it’s just that in french class in Class eight, we were taught to roll our ‘R’s” so i just have fun doing that till now ‘Wrooohbenesque’ , ‘Wrruby Woo’ , Wrolll your R’sss”

Rubenesque is one of the permanent line MAC Paint Pots and definitely one of the prettiest ones iv seen. Of course i love my Mac Genuine Treasure Paint Pot, but Rubenesque is a class apart!!! It’s a peachy gold paint pot with sheen and a whipped mousse like texture. On the eyes rubenesque is more like sheer gold rather than peach which is a bit of a bummer but it is pretty nonetheless. I like paint pots that can be worn alone as well as under eyeshadow and Rubenesque is definitely one of them.  Though i have to admit its much prettier when you swatch it on your hand than when on your eye- it kind of just becomes golden shimmer on your eye, but still pretty.I wore Rubenesque under Expensive Pink on my ‘Roka’ and everyone asked me how my eyes were looking so bright and shining. I half wanted to say “Its Wrooohbenesque dahling’ but since the in-laws are not used to my level of crazy i restrained myself!

Mac Paint Pots, in my opinion are the best eye primers around. They makes shadows stand out, elongate their wear like its nobodies business, and at least for me they definitely prevent creasing which singlehandedly makes me o back to them again and again because no other primer is as effective in preventing creasing !! If you have oily lids then the really our your savior because they dry up those lids in a jiffy! Another reason I also like Rubenesque more than the other paint pots is because it’s a lot easier to work with it doesn’t dry so easily and gives you time to blend it out on your eyelid.

Favourite was to wear RUbenesque:

  • Wear it under a flat matte shadow, so that the shimmer shines through the matte shadow
  • Wear it under similar peachy gold colors like Mac Expensive Pink
  • Wear it on its own with  a liner!

Verdict: A+

Price: Rs 1100/-

Recommendation: Mac Rubenesque Paint Pot is a super pretty peachy gold paint pot that you can wear alone or under your shadows. On the eyes somehow its  much more gold than peach, which is a bit dissapointing since it ends up looking like just gold shimmer but its a great one to be worn at night. It elongates the wear of eyeshadows, makes them look more vibrant and prevents creasing like its nobodys business. !!

Ever since your post, I am waiting for my Inglot eye base to finish up so that I can get the nubile. I want/ need a good eye base. Rubenesque looks good too. But the price.. * sigh*
Btw, Ruben as an artist. All his portraits were the way you described. Ever since rubenesque came to mean so, ie like Ruben’s style plum etc ( read voluptuous) :P

Btw, does it remotely resemble NYX chrome eyeshadow nymph in anyway?

I think it’s a reference to Ruben’s paintings. There’s lots of fat rolls and expanses of florid flesh in them.

Rubensque was the first Paintpot on my lust list, but you are right on the lids it barely looks peachy more like light gold, so I picked up Indianwood. Still mulling over Rubensque and Nubile ;)

Pooja, you should get Nubile! I’m NC42 and I love it. :)

dr_rashmi May 9, 2012 at 12:21 am

i think the whole logic of naming it that way is the same you mentioned, to make it sound fancy and upmarket, the way high-society likes it… more so because of the price it demands … :( . . .it looks absolutely fab but pricetag indicates i might not be able to lay hands on it anytime soon :(

I need to buy another one of these. I recently bought the Mad Minerals dupe. called Apricot Frost. I will do a comparison post when I get Rubenesque. :)

this looks super gorgeous…it now tops my wish list…BTW mehak what do you recommend more this or the indian wood???for bridal trouseau

mehak May 10, 2012 at 12:50 pm

Depends on what you want…Indianwood is very very pretty, but to me its like the paint pot version of MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow. I already ave woodwinked hence bought this one. Indianwood is more bridal though…this is more sheer
