Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

Guest Review by Sristi (Medium Skin tone, normal to oily skin)

Don’t new launches by make-up brands get us make-up enthusiasts super excited?? I mean since I got news of the new Maybelline launches, I could not wait to lay my hands on some of the products. So as soon as I got my pocket money for the  month, the first thing I do is rush to the Pantaloons make-up counter and check out all the pretty little baubles of color. And after a lot of deliberation in my mind, convincing myself that i do need to save some money aside for food  (Lipsticks dont fill your tummy!!) I managed to just buy the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

What Maybelline Claims:

  •  Formula is jet-milled into ultra-fine particles for an air-soft, ultra-silky texture.
  • The suede-touch puff smoothes onto skin evenly, effortlessly, for the most beautiful matte perfection.

Expert tip:-

Apply Dream Matte Powder to your forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin with the provided puff using gentle downward strokes. Build coverage gradually.

The texture of the Dream Matte powder is super fine and soft. The puff picks up just the right amount of the powder and application is very simple since the powder blends in no time. The compact is perfect for daily wear because it does not give a heavy look.  It evens out the complexion to quite an extent. As claimed, it gives a matte finish and that matte look stays for about 3-3.5 hours easily. I have normal to oily skin and it does keep the oiliness at bay for a good 3-3.5 hours. But the matte effect may stay for a lesser length of time for people with very oily skin. But for others, this compact does its job quite well for a decent length of time. So overall, it gives a light, even, matte coverage.

The compact comes in a beige colored packaging with a transparent top with the product name inscribed on it. The powder and the puff are in two separate compartments. The top compartment houses the compact whereas the bottom one holds the puff.  A mirror is attached at the bottom of the bottom compartment underneath the puff. The mirror is quite big and pretty useful for touch-ups when you are out. With a slight push on the left side, the bottom compartment swivels rightwards smoothly.  Again, you have to push the bottom compartment leftwards and it shuts with a click sound. So overall, fantastic packaging!! It’s quite sturdy and travel friendly.  Maybelline has given the packaging a lot of thought and I must say it’s quite impressive. Very user friendly and make the application process very easy.

The powder  comes in about 4 shades, though I am not sure.I finally I bought the shade Beige (Medium 2-2.5), and a lot of medium toned girls should be able to find a match, but the darker girls might struggle with this one.

PROS of Maybelline Dream Matte:-

  • Brilliant packaging!
  • Texture of powder smooth and soft.
  • The puff is of top quality. You don’t need to carry a powder/kabuki brush with this.
  • Blends extremely well.
  • Gives light, matte coverage.
  • Moderately priced.
  • Good quantity.

CONS of Maybelline Dream Matte:-

  • The matte finish may not last for 3-3.5 hours for people with extremely oily skin.
  • Shades are very limited -around 4 . For medium toned and light skin girls, the shades would be able to match but for darker girls, the shades are kind of limited .(Editors Note: My cousin sister has this and she likes it, but cant use it because she feels all the shades are too ‘whitish-cast” kinds for her dusky skin tone)

Verdict: A-

Price: Rs. 475/- for 9g.

Recommendation: The Maybelline Dream Matte Powder is another winner from the House of Maybelline. It is smooth, soft and blends superbly giving you a matte finish. The packaging is thoughtful and unique. The shades are kind of limited- so hope that you find a match- dusky girls might struggle to get one..

Even I was super thrilled about the Maybelline’s new launches, but unfortunately none of the powders or foundation worked for my NC 45 skin tone. I wish Maybelline would introduces more shades int his collection.

Yeah I agree. It could do with a few more shades.

I tried the foundation over the weekend and found it nice, I wore it for a day but it did not oxidize or leave any whitish cast ….. Plan to buy it next….
