Review of Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture extreme lipcolor desert Bloom

Guest Post by Rima (Light Skin Tone)

Few months back, one day when I was at Pantaloons I decided to explore the Revlon, Colorbar and Maybelline counters. The Revlon counter had no good stock, the SA at the Colorbar counter was horrible, she had her own set of names for the lipsticks I guess. She showed me a very nice pink shade and told “Mam, try this shade its Sheltery Pink it will look good on you.”.Never heard a name so ridiculous, so I ask “Aaahh what shade is it?? And I flip the lipstick to find that its Sultry Pink. I got so pissed off with her I wanted to actually pinpoint her the letters and make her pronounce it right. But I refrained myself from that and since I couldn’t stand her anymore now I made an excuse and moved over to the Maybelline counter quickly. This SA was really nice and perfect with her pronunciations and was so patient with me, though I had picked up My Mahogany within a few minutes (its my second one and I am in loooovvveee with it) but I was planning to buy one more. She showed me almost 20-25 shades from browns to pinks to mauves. I was too confused with what to buy and suddenly I find this lipstick, as if literally blooming out of the desert and asking “How about me?”. And next moment i owned the Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture extreme lipcolor in Desert Bloom!!!

This is what the Maybelline India website has to say about Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extreme:

  • Fall in love with color, all over again: Crisp Color from pure color pigments
  • Creamy Feel, with a built in lip balm
  • SPF 15 for sun protection
  • 16 Captivating Shades

Color: It is a very light pink shade with subtle hint of golden shimmer that does show only on the swatch and not on your lips. It is a very nice shade for day wear. It would be perfect for office goers and also for those casual day outs. The color is nicely pigmented and it will suit all Indian skin tones.

It would go very well with perfectly smokey eyes where you need to put a light shade of lipstick. I often combine this with the Maybelline Strawberry Carats lip gloss and it does really look good then.

Texture: I always look out for lipsticks that are moisturizing and do not dry out your lips like crazy. And this is highly moisturizing, I usually put a lip balm before applying lipcolors but with this lipstick I never need to apply a lip balm. It is very light on your lips.  It has a very nice and pleasant fragrance. It might be a vanilla fragrance.

It has a staying power of maximum 2 hours on me and though the color vanishes but it still keeps your lips moisturized for the day in the same way as a lip balm does.

Packaging: I don’t like the packaging. I find it really boring and old-fashioned. It has a brown colored casing with metallic finish. Apart from that I also feel it is not sturdy enough, if it experiences a fall it might break.

I have seen some people complaining about the Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extremes having fungal growth on them within a few months of their purchase. Though I have luckily not seen it in mine but this is a serious thing. It might be some fault on the company’s side and maybe some set of products have got contaminated while many have not.

What I like about Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extreme in Desert Bloom

  1. This is very moisturizing on your lips and very light on your lips.
  2. The color payoff is extremely good so one or two swipes and you are done.
  3. Very subtle shimmer that does not show at all, so all the shimmer haters like me will love this.
  4. A color that will flatter every skin tone.

What I don’t like  Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extreme in Desert Bloom

  1. It has a very short staying power. So one needs to reapply after every 2 hours. But once again, for the price that you are paying, this problem can well be neglected.
  2. The packaging is boring. Maybelline seems to have somewhat paid attention to most products’ packaging but I don’t know why the moisture extremes have been left behind. Sigh.
  3. The fungal growth that some people have complained.

Ratings: B+

Price: Rs 220 for 4 gm

Repurchase: Hamesha and forever I am gonna keep buying this shade and also explore other shades in this range.

Recommendation: Desert Bloom is a  soft rose pink with subtle shine and shimmer. It is  a nice, light,  wearable color that suits my fair skin tone, is moisturizing, has  decent  pigmentation and comes at an affordable price. If you can ignore its poor staying power then you will love this lipstick. It deserves to be on your everyday makeup kit.

Way to stick to some poor retail worker who is not privileged enough to receive a good education. Where is this pettiness coming from?

Rima July 15, 2012 at 10:23 pm

god knows why the SA s are not properly trained. Some dont even know the difference between coral, orange and peach!! :( :(

Nice shade. But, the way you spoke about the Colorbar SA is, frankly, really rude. Just because she’s not fortunate enough to have learnt how to read well, that hardly makes her a horrible SA. As long as she was helpful with the shades, that should be enough. But, I guess it’s never enough for some people…

Rima July 18, 2012 at 8:04 pm

She was disappointing to me Sara.Dear,i should have mentioned it here that she showed me all the dark shades while i wanted the light pink colored lip shades, she kept convincing me badly tht only dark colours will suit a fair skinned person like me.Which is such a stupid old school thinking…anyway it ws wht i have felt about the girl. But i still do like the last line of yours..cuz i anyhow wouldnt have liked any1 to be so ignorant of the work they are being paid for :)

Hi Mehak! I have very thin lips (almost like no lips!) Can you please suggest me the lip shades which would make my lips look plumper? I have a very fair complexion. I have read about lip plumpers. Are they good? Please HELP!

mehak July 21, 2012 at 7:26 pm
