The Body Shop Pressed Face Powder Review

Guest Post by Shivani (Medium Skin tone, Normal Skin)

A compact powder is something which almost all of us have in our Vanity. I always keep on changing my Compacts just because I get bored with them and want to try the new ones . I bought this from Pressed Powder from The Body Shop as they do not test on animals, and have  natural ingredients(well more than other brands :P). Anyways, I will not bore you anymore and tell you about the product in detail:

What the brand claims? A long-lasting, lightweight, ultra-fine pressed powder that provides a shine-free, velvety-smooth finish. It can be worn alone or over foundation and contains a powder puff. Dermatologically tested. Contains,Marula Oil – Is a very effective moisturiser that also helps to condition the skin over time. Also provides essential fatty acids that help to repair the skin’s moisture barrier, thus helping to restore moisture, smoothness and suppleness.Vitamin E – Is an antioxidant that helps to soften, condition and protect the skin.Olive oil – Helps to condition the skin.

How to use it: Apply directly to the face or over one of The Body Shop foundations, using the powder puff or our Face & Body Brush.

Key Ingredients: Marula Oil–Naturally rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, marula oil from Namibia makes our lip colors glide on and gives our face and eye powders a smooth, hydrating finish . Organic olive oil from Italy–Is a natural moisturizer for normal to dry skin. Vitamin E– Vitamin E conditions, nourishes, and protects the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and healthy.Talc, Silica, Nylon-12, Polyethylene, Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Octyldodecanol, Boron Nitride, Sclerocarya Birrea(Marula) Oil, PTFE, Squalane, Glyceryl Isostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Methicone, Butylparaben, May Contain: Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Manganese Violet.

My take on the Pressed powder: I have only positive things to say about this Body Shop  Compact as it really works for my skin. This gives me a matte finish with sheer coverage and  Please note that by ‘matte’ i dont mean that it makes me look sun dried. It makes me look matte in a very natural way- as if keeping the oil at bay, but still looking like myself. I love the fact that this is sheer coverage as I wear it above my base makeup. Even on the days when I wear it just on my moisturizer, I find it working well. The packaging is quite chic and sturdy. I have been carrying this along with me since last year but never faced any issue.

The coverage is not much, but I like the fact that it provides a natural and even finish. Luckily, I got a perfect match for my skin tone but they have no shades for Dusky skin tones. I am medium and I have shade 05. And shade number 06 is the Darkest from this range!

This powder is very soft and silky in texture and it blends easily with the skin because its very finely milled. This is a product where you can see the difference but cannot spot that it is on! I know this is confusing but this means this is good :P.

I have normal skin and I don’t need to retouch this, but my oily skinned roommate (who introduced me to this) needs to reapply it every 3-4 hours. But that is not too bad either IMHO.

  • Gives a nice matte finish which lasts whole day on my normal skin
  • Packaging is quite sturdy
  • Smooth in texture
  • Does not appear cakey
  • Lightweight
  • Natural ingredients(well atleast some of them)
  • Not tested on animals(my favourite part)

  • No SPF
  • Pricey
  • Sheer finish

Rating: A-

Price: Rs 795/-

Will I repurchase? Currently I am in love with MAC, so want to buy Mineralize Skinfinish.  I will not repurchase it only coz I am bored of it, and I rarely repurchase cosmetics.

Recommendation: I am glad that I bought this Body Shop Pressed Compact Powder  because it gives a natural matte look to the face while providing some sheer coverage. Its great for summer being lightweight, and for those of you who just want a slightly more polished, clean look without the ultra heavy coverage the Body Shop Powder is perfect.

I might give this a pass because I have found a few perfect ones for me.
Is the MAX’s mineralize skinfinish meant for oily skin as well? I could give that a try I think

Shivani August 3, 2012 at 8:16 pm

Which one is your perfect one Nivedita?
I am not sure about Mineralize skinfinish :(. I told the SA that I have normal skin and he applied that on me but I am not sure about oily skin :(

I like to have SPF in my compact. Nice review :-)

shivangi August 4, 2012 at 10:05 am

yep but I always feel the SPF in powders is too less for protection…

Hey Shivani thank you for reviewing this pressed powder and Mehak for uploading this post :D
I really wanted to try this one.. I have a question, please let me know if Chambor’s pressed powder is better or this one? or any other pressed powder for someone who has oily skin and wants to look fresh all the time in office.. (yes, I am that someone :()

shivangi August 5, 2012 at 10:07 am

I have combi skin Swati and this works for me, but I have seen oily gals praising this as well. No idea about CHambor dear :(
