Sakshee Pradhan of SCHON fame, showcased a collection inspired by the sparrow who leaves her home at winter time, to return on the onset of Spring Summer. The collection was dominated by Salmon Pink, which was incorporated in lovely, fluid, flowing silhouettes of crepe, satin and net. There is something really soothing, and oddly calming about this collection as you flip through it.
Kavita Bharta at WIFW 2013 Spring Summer
Kavita Bhartia’s “Folklore Saga”collection was inspired by a Romanian Holiday. Using Chiffon, Organza and Silk Kavita wove a Romanian Story with peasant blouses, and geometric print embroidery along with the structured headgear to make it look like Easten Europe in a previous century.
AM PM Mayan maze Collection
Press Note: This season, for Spring Summer 2013, the designers draw inspiration from this ancient civilization, imprinting an entire collection with hints of its myths and mystique.Exotic imagery of God-Birds, Pyramids, Birds of Paradise and the Maze Floritisque, all find their way into the soul of this lush collection. The fabrics used are natural with dewy freshness. Silk Satins and Organzas have been woven to reflect, as if water was their thread, and from them silhouettes, so fluid, as if liquid in form. The simplest palette of black and white signifies, the riddled journey of man, through all the other shades of life, beginning from nothingness, evolving towards the Light, while encompassing everything in between.
Manish Malhotra at WLIFW 2013 Spring Summer
Press Note:The Mijwan collection this season for WIFW will see the return of earthy, subdued tones like Ivory, burnt Orange, Crème, dull shades of Red, Pink and the likes. The collection embraces the traditional but popular embroidery work – Chikankari. The intrinsic needlework work is done exclusively by the Mijwan girls adopted by Manish. The embroidery gets its effect from the variety of stitches and different grades of threads used to form the beautiful patterns. This, teamed with the stunning and immaculate designs by Manish has been instrumental in the creation of some exquisite ensembles. Needless to add, there are heavy traces of Manish Malhotra’s unique style of bridging yesterday with tomorrow.
Manish Malhotra says, “The WIFW 2012 collection displays the convoluted and chic chikankari work done by the women of Mijwan, exclusively for us. The presentation of traditional Indian crafts in a contemporary modern outlook is something we are proud to bring to our audiences.”
The past 2 years of the Mijwan show in Mumbai has seen great success with actors like Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra among others walking the ramp. This year also had Mary Kom, Nita Ambani and a few film directors grace the ramp.
