Meet Urmi

A Mumbai Girl, who is currently living in the States. This love story started with mathematics and transitioned into a beautiful Gujju Wedding ! Read on..

So whats the deal with the Mathematical love story?

I met Timir in a party thrown by Manish Sir (our teacher) for all his favorite students who scored extremely well in Mathematics in their 12th standard. At that time, he was in his last year of Engineering and as a hobby he was helping Sir in writing mathematics books and so he was invited to the party. We ended up chatting for the entire night in the party and hardly spoke to anyone else. LOL. Sir was my family friend and he only trusted Timir to drop me home. I still remember, we preferred walking rather than taking an auto rickshaw so we can talk even more. Since that day, we were always good friends.

I got into Engineering and he left for USA to get his Masters degree. But all those years while he was away, he guided me in engineering and always sent me flowers and cake on my birthday. Dude who does that for a friend?! Every birthday sharp at midnight, he would call me to wish happy birthday and that happened consecutively for 5 years. Errgg, how can he be so perfect! After 5 years when I got admission to CMU, USA for my master’s degree he asked me out. After 2.5 years of dating, he proposed to me in Las Vegas, I said yes and we got engaged. The proposal was the most beautiful surprise of my life. He is a perfectionist, romantic and the most genuine guy I have ever met in my life. Then what – we got married and all the love, blissfulness and happiness followed us.

Aww who knew math could be cute?? So did your parents agree from the beginning? Were there difference in culture at all?

Well although we both are gujjus, our families’ religious beliefs are different. My family believes only in Krishna and his family believes in ALL Gods. So, after the wedding day when I had to sit for rituals in sasural, I happily did it and in fact enjoyed all the attention on the day of the pooja as a new dulhan ;) :D Compromises are good and it brought us even more close.

Morning Pooja Lehenga

Sangeet Lehenga

Traditional Panetar Saree

I really love your blush pink lehenga ! All the outfits are simple yet beautiful. Where from?

Chamee and Palak (Parle east) stitched my sangeet and morning pooja lehengas. (Editors Note: If yr looking for affordable lehengas  in Mumbai,  that are quality and non blingy, Chamee & palak are really good) They are the best professional designers in Mumbai – they deliver on time, and their passion is obvious from their designs. I chose them cause I hated all the diamonds jazzy stuff that I saw everywhere. I knew what I wanted – simple, classy, and elegant looking outfits. It took me 3 days to finalize them cause I buy my clothes as ‘love on first sight’. They have several samples and they ask you to choose fabric, designs etc. For my Sangeet, I customized my outfit – I picked out from the available fabrics, designs and colors (peach and blue) and they did an excellent job with it. For my morning pooja – I customized my blouse and picked the lehenga and chuni as it is. The two sisters will ensure that you like their work.

I got my wedding saree (panetar) from Ajay Arvindbhai Khatri (Bhuleshwar) and designed the chuni by myself. I got the green border, red net cloth and pearls and gave it to my local tailor.

Did you enjoy the wedding? Which event did you enjoy the most?

We thoroughly enjoyed both- the wedding and the sangeet. We danced throughout the sangeet function and on wedding we chatted all the time during pheras. Yes we talk a lot!! We did dance together in sangeet. I choreographed our dance; we did a puppet dance on Raabta (Agent Vinod), romatic dance on Tak te rehte tujko (Dabangg), masti dance on Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu Title song, happy dance on Laapata (Ek Tha Tiger). (Editors Note: LOL thats a lot of songs. You really do love dancing)

Adore your photos!!!! Who clicked em and whose your MUA?

Sunita Chavan was my make-up artist. She knew my preferences – simple and natural. I did a trial with her and I liked her. She is a very sweet lady.

Payal from Payal’s All things nice was my photographer – She is fantastic. She takes a lot of interest in knowing her clients, figuring out their family, close friends, chemistry of the couple etc. She is so creative and she really captures all the moments so well. I loved her work when I accidently happened to look at one of the shot she had taken for another bride and since then I just wanted her. She took my feedback but she relies on her intuition more. I have booked Payal for my kids’ wedding. LOL. I just love her photography. She is the best!

I love both the lehengas – the morning puja, and sangeet one! Wish we could get a better look at both of them though – any chance you’ll upload more pictures where the lehengas are visible more clearly?
