Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Bronze

Bobbi Brown says ‘Nothing lights up your face like  Shimmer’ . Oh well, i can think of a few things- A new handbag, New Anarkali, Hot Chocolate Fudge, Ranbir Kapoor, George Clooney, Either one of them with minimal clothing…ermm but lets keep this PG 13 and focus on the Shimmer Brick for now, because that seems to be the shortest cut to that elusive glow we all search for !

Bobbi Brown Claims

“The original Shimmer Brick Compact. This shimmering, brush-on powder creates a deep, bronzy glow. Works well with neutral and deep blush shades. To apply: Sweep the Face Blender Brush through all five shades and dust lightly on cheekbones after blush. Focus on applying shimmer on the top of cheekbones. To add a highlight to eyes, apply the lightest shade in the compact just under browbone with fingertips or the Eye Smudge Brush.”

My View:

The Bobbi brown shimmer brick is basically a fancy pants name for five shimmery strips all stacked together and ‘Bronze’ consists of five complementing shades which start with a pale cream at the top, move to a champagne, a bronze, a rose gold and a deep burgundy brown. Now these Shimmer Bricks are essentially multi-tasking products..you can use them as eyeshadows, highlighters and as blushes as well.

As an Eyeshadow, i think the Shimmer Bricks work exceptionally well. They are super smooth and the rose gold is such a gorgeous color for the eyes- one swipe and its a beautiful, lush duochrome of pink and gold !!! As a blush, these will work best with deeper skin tones who want a beautiful bronzey glow with a touch of pink in it- i wouldn’t recommend this to paler skintones though (the bronze can end up looking muddy). As a highlighter, ermm i dont think i love it that much. You see- i like highlighter that have soft tints, so i can wear em with the blush of my choice. With this you cant really pair it with pink or peach blushes. Secondly, i like soft-focus highlighters which give a hazy, glowy look. This one is definitely higher on the shimmer quotient (though the shimmer is very very fine, and not chunky at all), so it gives more of a high impact look .

Pros of Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick:

  • Super Versatile, Can be used as an eyeshadow, Blush , or Highlighter
  • Super Pigmented – Color is visible in one sweep
  • Soft and blendable
  • Fine Shimmer that is non chunky
  • For Deeper skin tones, i think this is a gorgeous product

Cons of Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze:

  • If you have large pores, look elsewhere as this can definitely accentuate them.
  • Even though the shimmer is fine, it is high on that quotient and if you are  not careful its very easy to over-apply this and kill the look.
  • Does have strong color of its own- which means layering over a blush can make it a problem

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick applied lightly.

Verdict: A-

Price: I think around 2800/- in India

Recommendation: The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze is a beautiful, versatile product for darker skin tones – it works as a blush, eyeshadow and highlighter as well. Personally, the shimmer is tad bit high for my liking, but having said that Im addicted to my shimmer brick because when used softly it gives the most beautiful glow. This color is best for deeper skintones, I find the lighter, peachier shimmer bricks much more flattering on me

I was about to ask the same. the price is too high for my budget. But the brick looks awesome. I think Inglot has something akin. Recently, I have gone into this blush and highlight phase and I think now I would have sleepless nights.

Looks nice! Suggest some nice brights for the summer and the rains! I’m using a lot of Maybelline long hour sticks! And I’m happy with the long-stay quality.

My Sleek highlighter looks similar. I still haven’t learnt to use a highlighter properly without making it look ott. It either looks like I haven’t applied any highlighter or it looks too shimmery..
Still working on it.

I feel like these highlighters which have a lot of these colors dont really work as highlighters you know..more like shimmery blushes. Id much rather get a nice, softly tinted highlighter like Benefit Findign Mr Bright and apply it on a blush

Ya there’s too much colour.. I sometimes end up with uneven colour because of this. One side darker and the other lighter… That could also be because I still haven’t learned to use these properly..
