MAC Matchmaster Foundation (4) Mac Matchmaster Foundation SPF15: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Rima (Medium fair skin tone, Combination skin)

I am one Mac obsessed girl who has no logical explanation as to why I keep browsing the Mac Cosmetics website  except that I am addicted to everything MAC. So last year when I was looking for a good foundation for myself, MAC had just launched their Matchmaster foundation and I was keen on trying that in their store. At the store, the MUA too suggested I check out their Matchmaster foundation which is great for my skin type, which is a combination skin type. She applied it on me and no exaggerations,I fell in love with my face on the mirror, I realized it was glowing and unlike most foundations which give a powdery finish this was like a perfectly natural looking foundation. My Mom was super excited to see the freshness on my skin and she bought that for me immediately and I was on cloud 9!! I totally love every bit of the foundation. Here I am going to unfold the reasons behind that.

What the MAC website says: Uses Shade Intelligence Technology to bring customized shades in a flawless demi-matte finish with medium buildable coverage and broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 15 protection. Gives perfect color purity without looking ashy or chalky, reduces shine on the skin’s surface and reduces excess oil. Conditions and soothes skin while minimizing the appearance of pores and imperfection.

My Views

PACKAGING: The foundation bottle comes in a transparent, sturdy glass bottle with a pump dispenser. It has a twist-and-lock system which makes it safe for travel. The pump is black and made of plastic .It dispenses just the right amount of product.

TEXTURE: Well, the MUA told me that this foundation particularly caters to the normal/ combination skin types and controls the oiliness of the skin. The foundation has a nice creamy consistency. It is non-oily and feels light on the skin. I have a combination skin, and my main problem area is my nose which is oily, but on application of this foundation I can actually feel that the oiliness is controlled for long hours. It never broke me out. As told in the Mac website it really gives a flawless demi-matte finish with medium buildable coverage. I do not like heavy coverage on my skin, it makes me feel too made up, I like the natural, real finish and this foundation gives just that. I get a natural, luminous and flawless finish with this foundation.  It contains SPF but still never gives any white cast on my photographs. I need just around 2 pumps of the product and it is more than enough to cover my face and neck.

STAYING POWER: Summers in Kolkata mean humidity at its peak. So when I am wearing  it in outdoors, I tend to sweat a lot and I keep on patting my face every few minutes, but I have never seen any foundation on my tissues or handkerchiefs. It is water-resistant and never melts in the sun.

It does stay for more than 8 hours on my skin and the coverage remains almost even, with just a bit of fading. Most of my spots still remain covered and my nose still remains non-oily and I still get a glow, so I love its staying power.

SHADES: Mac always has a palette of shades to match every possible skin tone. So this time nonetheless with 14 shades I guess most of us will find our own foundation shade very easily. No NC or NW, just Shades 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 etc will help solve the undertone confusions. The MUA applied shade 4.0 on my left cheek and shade 3.0 on my right, shade 3.0 did not suit me, but shade 4.0 gave me a lovely and natural look. I picked up shade 4.0 for myself.

MAC Matchmaster FoundationMAC Matchmaster Foundation (2)MAC Matchmaster Foundation (3)PROS:

  1. It gives an effortlessly natural and luminous, semi- matte finish.
  2. It gives an even finish.
  3. Gives a medium buildable coverage
  4. Great for combination skinned people. It does control the t-zone’s oiliness for long hours.
  5. Does not oxidize.
  6. Stays for long hours.
  7. It is water-resistant. Does not transfer on my clothe necklines.
  8. It does come with a pump.YAY!!
  9. Has SPF, still photographs pretty good.
  10. Shade selection is not too confusing.
  11. This contains 35 ml of the product whereas most others have 30 ml.

Can’t think of any. *gleeeeee* Okay if I stress, there are a few.

  1. It is quite expensive, but then all MAC products are.
  2. It might not suit very dry skinned people – i think it works best for normal to combination skin
  3. Does not give super heavy coverage, though the coverage is still solid… but those looking for a foundation to cover up heavy pigmentation and spots might be disappointed.

PRICE-Rs.2100 for 35 ml

RECOMMENDATION: MAC Matchmaster foundation truly does whatever it claims. It performs brilliantly well. It is a blessing for girls with combination skin who are mostly left behind whenever it comes to foundations. It stays for more than 8 hours, gives a nice and natural feel to the skin. It covers up little spots and pigmentations and gives an even finish. It has a buildable coverage and yet feels light on the skin. Matchmaster definitely is going to top the list of my repurchases. All combination skinned girlies do give it a try when you are visiting the MAC store next time. It is definitely going to be your most loved and adored foundation. Highly recommended!!

Sounds like a great product but not too sure if it will suit oily-combi skin sp in this weather. Winters maybe but this horrible humidity, I don’t know.

Rima July 5, 2013 at 10:17 pm

I bought Matchmaster 5.0 and im NC 41 , i bought it from US and when the MUA tried on me , it kind of blended in but when i used it at home , it made me look dark and worn off . What should i do now ?
