Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream In Antwerp: Swatches & Review
Guest Review By Lee (Light Skin Tone/NC 35, Combination Skin)
Lipstick in a liquid form? Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Well it certainly made me curious and I couldn’t wait to try this hybrid of a lipstick, lipgloss and a lip stain by NYX Cosmetics.
Product Description: Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing.
After going through numerous swatches I finally settled on the shade ‘Antwerp’. Antwerp is a soft coral-pink which is bright enough to perk up your complexion yet subtle enough to be worn during daytime-office wear shade. It will suit light-medium complexion beautifully but might wash out the dusky beauties!
The texture of the lip cream is like an air whipped mousse and glides well on the lips. It settles into a matte finish after a few minutes of application. It does not dry out my lips however during winters when my lips weren’t so healthy and chapped they did make my lips dry. Since it is a matte lip cream it has the tendency to accentuate the fine lines of the lips hence prior exfoliation is a must and it is best to apply a lip balm underneath.
The lip cream is well pigmented and a single swipe gives the true color. It can get a bit patchy if you layer it too much so you need to be careful while applying it. Being a matte lip cream it does not bleed or transfer. The staying power is pretty good and stays put for 4-5 hours after which it settles into a light coral tint. It survives drinks and snacks but you will need to touch it up incase you have a full meal. The thing I hate the most is that it fades very unevenly which looks horrid requiring an immediate touch up.
Overall, I feel the lip cream is good value for money and a total steal if you buy it internationally as it retails at a really affordable price there. In India it is priced at more than double the amount but you can usually get it at a good discount online and I do think it is well worth its price in India.
1)A coral pink shade suitable for office and day wear
2)Has an air whipped creamy and lightweight texture
3)It is highly pigmented and will easily cover pigmentation of lips
4)Decent staying power which survives drink and snacks
5)Super affordable if bought through international websites
1) Can be drying and settles into fine lines unless the lips are prepped and exfoliated well.
2) Fades unevenly which looks disgusting!
Price: Rs 750 on Indian Websites & Rs 530 at Sephora, Delhi
Final Recommendation: NYX Antwerp Lipcream is a pretty coral pink shade with a matte finish. It can be drying and settles into fine lines unless the lips are prepped well. However, it is long staying and well pigmented so unless you have dry lips this will be a certain recommendation from me!
