Chubby Stick Intense - 4 Clinique Chubby Stick Intense In Curviest Caramel: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Shilpa

Love at first sight and then again, at first swipe

Pretty much sums up my story with Clinique’s Chubby Sticks! Fell in love when I saw the print ad, followed by the cute-siest shade names (Two Ton Tomato! – how cheesy is that) and the fact that they called “news” about the Chubby Sticks – Chubby Chatter! Some really clever copywriters work at Clinique (and I am thoroughly inspired, read on to see my ode to ‘ch come alive J).

To be fair, I am a lip balm / lip gloss kind of person so these were heaven sent! So much so, that I accumulated 7 of them in a matter of 2 months. But that’s a story for another day. Today’s chat is about the Intense variant that Clinique launched as a follow up to the original Chubby Sticks, for women who wanted more color and opacity.

What Clinique says:

What it is: A nourishing tinted lip balm halfway between sheer and opaque.

What it does: Soften lips with a cushion of color that’s not quite sheer, not quite opaque—but something perfectly in between. This moisturizing balm is loaded with mango and shea butters to make dry, delicate lips feel comfortably soft and smooth.

My Experience With Clinique Chubby Stick Intense In Curviest Caramel:

So these share all the cool aspects of the original Chubby Sticks (cherubic packaging, twist up crayon – no sharpening, easy to apply, moisturization of shea butters etc etc) but in addition to that, they are also nicely pigmented and the color builds up. While the coverage varies with shades, for my chosen shade Curviest Caramel it at best needs 2 swipes to cover my highly pigmented lips. I love how it looks like opaque, beige-rose-pink on the lips with just a subtle hint of shine – which disappears in the first 15 minutes as the thing settles on your lips. Those of you who though the originals had to much ‘shine’ quotient will be glad to check out these. Natural, graceful, feminine, sophisticated and very appropriate for day wear. It is quite smooth and comfortable to wear (doesn’t feel Chalky/heavy on the lips) and absolutely no stickiness. Being Clinique, it is fragrance free as always.

I also believe this is a universally flattering shade and would most likely suit all skin tones. It lasts quite long (around 4 hours) and fades into a pretty stain. Always a good habit to exfoliate lips before you apply!

The stuff is so gorgeous that it managed to achieve something that no other lip product has accomplished till now – Made me re-purchase (well before the first one gets over) because I am worried it would be out of stock or worse, discontinued when I want it! Also, no more wild-goose chase for the perfect MLBB shade!

What Works

  • Curviest Caramel is a beautiful, universally flattering beige-rose pink shade
  • Classy packaging – color of the pack mirrors the shade inside
  • Convenient – no sharpening needed!
  • So chic to apply – can be done even without a mirror
  • Moisturizing, but not overly so
  • Allergy tested, fragrance free
  • Lots of choice – 8 varied shades from the safer browns to daring reds and oranges and voluptuous violets!

What May Not Work

  • Nothing, its my best chum

Rating: A (The + taken away for the price which is much more competitive in the US compared to rest of the world)

Price: INR 1025

Recommendation: Chubby Sticks Intense have the perfect equilibrium (don’t I sound like an economist?) of Cuteness (packaging), Chubbiness (amount of product), Charm (variety of shades) and brings the right amount of Cheer to your face…what if it isn’t Cheap? It’s perfect otherwise!

PS: Besides Chubby, this post has 14 words that started with ch J … super lame but I had to do something to express my love for it!

I like the same elegant and classy packaging that they’ve maintained for years. It’s a beautiful shade.

What a pretty shade! My favorite neutral shade from this line is Fuller Fig. It’s better for my dusky skin tone.

Shilpa August 17, 2013 at 10:44 pm

Fully agree, Fuller Fig is a super pretty shade too!

It’s a nice colour for everyday wear! I’m more inclined to buy the intense range than the original.

Shilpa August 17, 2013 at 10:45 pm

Yup, Intense range is more bang for the buck compared to the originals!
