Clinique Eye Defining Liquid Liner (7) Clinique Eye Defining Liquid Liner Black: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Adi

I love Clinique, I really do. But sometimes I feel that they just slap a super high price tag on their products without really making sure that the product is as spectacular as its price! This is what I felt when I tried out their Eye Defining Liquid Eyeliner. You would have guessed by now that I have a bone to pick with this product!

Product Description: Fast-drying liquid eyeliner flows on with ease for intense, precise colour. Draws a thin line for a natural look, a thick line for a dramatic effect. Water-resistant formula wears long and true. Suitable for contact lens wearers. Ophthalmologist tested.

My views on Clinique Eye Defining Liquid Eyeliner:

The eyeliner has a felt tip applicator – like a marker pen of sorts. I have a love-hate relationship with this applicator. Granted, the felt tip makes applying this eyeliner a piece of cake – in fact, it is probably one of the easiest liquid eyeliners to apply. But the tip is a bit hard and so it tugs slightly on my eyes (although it’s not very severe). The finish is completely matte.

My main problem is – since the felt tip is a bit rigid, the line tends to get streaky and patchy – the applicator doesn’t pick up enough product and I have to dip the brush in 4-5 times and go over the line atleast thrice to get an even line across my lid. Needless to say, this can get slightly annoying, especially if you’re in a hurry!

Another issue I have with this eyeliner (oh yes, there’s more!) is that it doesn’t stay on my eyes for more than 4 hours. I have slightly oily eyelids so this may fare better on girls who don’t, but it’s still average lasting power. It is neither waterproof nor smudge-proof. And if you have a tendency to rub your eyes then you really should steer clear of this – half of it is gone the minute I rub my eyes!

So is there anything I like about this eyeliner? Yes, I really like the packaging – it is sleek, shiny and posh and also airtight so that the liner doesn’t dry up. I like the pigmentation – it really is an intense black (when you get rid of all the patchiness!). And I do appreciate that it does not sting my eyes. I wear contact lenses so I can vouch for it as far as lenses are concerned too.

Why you’ll love it:

  • Felt tip applicator makes life so much simpler – easy to draw thin as well as thick precise lines
  • Sturdy packaging, eyeliner doesn’t dry up immediately
  • Pigmentation is quite intense
  • Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
  • Dries within a minute or so of applying
  • Dries to a matte finish

Why you’ll hate it:

  • It is not waterproof or smudge-proof
  • SO expensive for a black liquid eyeliner!
  • Doesn’t last long on oily eyelids
  • Application is patchy

Rating: B-

Price: USD 16.00 (Appx Rs 1000)

Recommendation: With a price that makes my head spin, I would have expected this eyeliner to have something special about it. But apart from the felt tip, I can’t help but feel that it is absolutely run of the mill and I would definitely put in a bit more money (or less!) and go for something longer-lasting and waterproof. Don’t really recommend this one.
