Lakme Absolute Kohl (10) Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Adi

To buy or not to buy, that is the question. And well, I finally gave in to my ‘cravings’ and paid through my nose for the Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate. I’ve always been a kohl girl and I always will be one and now I’m here to tell you girls why you should pick up this kohl!

My Views:

Firstly, the ONE thing that makes the Kohl Ultimate stand out is the pigmentation. It is fantastic! It is definitely the most intense black kohl I have ever seen. Kohl girls will love it just for this; they don’t even need to read the rest of the review! But wait there’s more – it doesn’t smudge. I have slightly watery eyes I guess – I don’t know if it’s because I wear contact lenses – but most kohls don’t stay put on my waterline for more than 2-3 hours tops. This one does. And it transfers just to my lower lash line, not much below that so I don’t look like I haven’t slept in weeks!

It is smooth, creamy and glides like a dream, does not pull or tug on my waterline. It sets within minutes of applying so any smudging needs to be done quickly.

The kohl comes with a smudger and a sharpener. The smudger is on the other end of the pencil and the sharpener is attached to the cap. Contrary to what most people say I actually like the smudger. It does a really good job of evenly smudging (if that makes sense?) the kohl and gives a sexy smokey look which, coupled with the intense black kohl just makes my eyes look a hundred times better. As for the sharpener, it does an okay job of sharpening the pencil but since the kohl is so soft, quite a bit is wasted. Luckily you don’t need to sharpen it very often!

So is it better than Maybelline Colossal Kajal and/or Lakme Eyeconic Kajal? YES. It is better than both. How? Well, it is much more intense, as you can see in the swatches. It also wears longer than both. And it smudges much less than Colossal. Does it really stay on the waterline for 8 hours? Well, no. Up to about 4-5 hours of wearing it, you can still see traces of it on the waterline. After that it transfers slightly to the lash line, which still gives your eyes definition so that way, I think it’s great. But yes, atleast for me, after about 4 hours, it starts to fade from the waterline. And lastly, is it worth 675 bucks? Not exactly. It is, in SO many ways, better than Colossal and Eyeconic but it definitely isn’t worth four times more than Colossal.

2 swipes of Kohl Ultimate & Maybelline Colossal smudged slightly with a finger after 2 minutes of swatching. You can see that the Kohl Ultimate smudges a lot lesser than Colossal.

Lakme Absolute Kohl (8)

Why you’ll love it:

  • Deepest pigmentation among all the kohls
  • Long staying power
  • Doesn’t smudge at all, sets very quickly
  • Completely waterproof
  • Does not give raccoon eyes

Why you won’t like it:

  • Expensive!
  • Sharpening is required

Rating: A-

Price: Rs 675

Recommendation: in all honesty, even though apart from the intensity there isn’t THAT much of a difference between the Kohl Ultimate and the Colossal Kajal, it is definitely superior to the latter in many aspects and my suggestion would be – give it a try! You may not find it worth repurchasing but you’re definitely missing out if you don’t try this atleast once. It may just become your new best friend!

Big kohl fan here. Your post has dissected this khol pencil very well. I use Lakme Eyeconic currently.

Great Review! But why is it so expensive :(

Swati September 3, 2013 at 5:18 pm

It looks so good.. I wish it was reasonably priced :(

Try the L’Oreal Infallible kohl in “night day black” for similar results and only for Rs.500. It is a twist up which doesn’t need sharpening and also comes with a smudger! The only downfall, it is available only in L’Oreal standalone boutiques at high-end malls.

I just bought a Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate Kajal online on ebay as I live in Australia and do not have access to any Lakme products. I have seen the pictures of the product on the net and on blogs and mine came without a sharpener and (Kohl Ultimate Kajal) in place of Kohl Ultimate is written. Now I am wondering if it is FAKE???

Please Help

Ria i too experienced the same problem as that you had. I purchased the Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate Kajal from an Lakme outlet from an renowned mall and got the Kajal without the sharpner. Now will i able to sharpen it with another sharpner.. or i think then my 700 rs are total waste.. :( :(
