Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss Review: One Shine Day
Guest Review By Adi (Light-medium warm skin tone, combination skin)
Ever since the Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Glosses were launched, I’ve desperately wanted to get my hands on atleast one of them. But I was so confused about which shade to pick up – the two more popular ones weren’t options for me. Why? Yes, Gleaming Grenadine and Captivating Coral are among the most gorgeous lip glosses EVER but since I was neither ready for red nor for orange I decided to play safe and go the pink way. Enter the Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss in ‘One Shine Day’!
Claims of the Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Glosses: Lavish lips with a molten hot glaze. More Vibrant Color from pure liquid pigments. Cleaner shine from our 100% wax-free gloss. Creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar.
My take on the product:
The gloss comes in a tube packaging with a silver cap so shiny that you can see your reflection in it. I think the packaging is really sleek and it’s sturdy too so no complaints there. Coming to the lip gloss itself – One Shine Day is a gorgeous mid-toned pink with very prominent shimmer. It is an extremely blue-based pink. The texture of the gloss is just heavenly – it is so smooth and creamy that it feels moisturizing on the lips without feeling heavy at all. It is also – to quite an extent – not sticky, so that is a HUGE plus point!
The gloss has a slightly bent sponge applicator that picks up the right amount of gloss and it is easy and convenient to use and spreads the gloss quite evenly over the lips.
The best part about this lip gloss, at least for me – is the coverage. Although you can wear it sheer too by just applying one layer, 2-3 swipes give near opaque coverage even on my pigmented lips which is just amazing. Another thing you girls should note – the shimmer is quite noticeable on the lips too. Oh and did I mention – the gloss has a lovely fragrance! It’s like the icing on a strawberry pastry!
The gloss stays put on my lips for about 4 hours after which it begins to fade, leaving a very soft pink tint. However since it is loaded with shimmer, the shimmer tends to stay until I use a remover.
One of the issues I see with this lip gloss is the shade itself. It is SO blue-based that it definitely will clash with yellower skin tones. I have a very warm skin tone and to be honest, it does wash me out too, but not too much, so I like to think I can get away with it. But yes, if your skin has yellow undertones, I think you should have a proper look at the swatches and make sure that the shade will not clash with your skin tone.
- Super affordable
- Insanely pigmented – coverage is nearly opaque even for pigmented lips
- Sturdy, classy packaging
- Doesn’t feel heavy or uncomfortably sticky on the lips
- Amazing fragrance
- Very easy to apply
- Stays about 3-4 hours, leaves a slight tint after fading
- Shade will wash out yellower skin tones
- Noticeable amount of shimmer which tends to get left behind as the gloss fades
- Tends to transfer
Price: Rs 350
Recommendation: One Shine Day is a beautiful lip gloss with amazing coverage and a lovely non-sticky texture. Shimmer lovers will adore this and so will girls with pigmented lips. The only reasons you should stay away from this are – if the shade doesn’t suit you or if you don’t like shimmer in lip colours. For me, it’s definitely paisa vasool and I’ll be going back for more shades!
