Maybelline Superstay Lipstick Please Stay Plum (4) Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr Lipstick Please Stay Plum: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Adi (Light-medium warm skin tone, combination skin)

A lipstick that claims to stay on for 14 hours is definitely intriguing, whether you usually have 14-hour days or not! (Most days I’m ‘catching up’ on my beauty sleep!) So I picked up the Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr Lipstick in the shade ‘Please Stay Plum’ – cute name right? I like how most of these lipsticks have ‘stay’ or ‘always’ or some such synonym in their names indicating that they’re long-lasting!

Claims of the Super Stay 14 Hr Lipsticks: 14 hour long lasting lipstick with an ultra-lightweight formula. Stays fresh, light, and comfortable. Super rich lip color that lasts for 14 hours. Pigments are enveloped in a long wearing system. Smudge free lipstick shades.

My Take On Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr Lipstick Please Stay Plum:

First and foremost, the pigmentation of the Super Stay lipsticks is brilliant, and this one is no exception. One swipe is enough to give nearly opaque coverage – and that too on pigmented lips! The lipstick has a fruity fragrance which is quite pleasant. So, coming to the main claim – does it stay for 14 hours? Well I haven’t worn it for that long yet, but I wore it for about 8-9 hours and it stayed on the whole while with extremely minimal fading. So in my books, it does live up to that claim!

The shade Please Stay Plum is a deep plum with slight red undertones – almost a wine colour. It has very fine gold shimmer. The shimmer is visible in the bullet as well as in the hand swatch but when the lipstick is actually applied on the lips, it’s barely noticeable if at all (which is great! Who wants chunky gold shimmer on their lips?!).

The main issue I have with this lipstick is, sadly, the texture. It’s super dry! So much so that the bullet actually tugs on my lips a bit when I’m applying the lipstick! Plus any drying lipstick is unforgiving on chapped lips and that’s the case with this one too – you will need a lip balm underneath for sure. If you don’t have dry/chapped lips then maybe you’ll be happier with the texture of these lipsticks – for me this is a nightmare! Also, the lipstick feels slightly heavy on my lips – not waxy or weird that way, but just heavy – you know, like I can feel that I’m wearing something on my lips.

What’s to love?

  • Stays on for a minimum of 6-7 hours with very slight fading
  • Gorgeous shade, amazing pigmentation that gives full coverage even for dark lips
  • Satiny smooth finish
  • Fruity fragrance

What’s to hate?

  • The texture is really dry
  • Though practically invisible, shimmer is present
  • A bit expensive given the quantity (only 3.3 g)
  • Feels slightly heavy on the lips

Rating: B-

Price: Rs 525

Recommendation: As far as staying power and pigmentation is concerned, I think these lipsticks are amazing – the texture, however, is where the problem lies. Please Stay Plum is a lovely bold shade that will suit a lot of skin tones but I’m pretty disappointed with the drying texture so I don’t really recommend this.

I have this in Enduring Ruby, I love how it looks on me but it’s too drying for me as well.

Yes I guess it’s a problem with the entire range.. :/

Though it is a little bit drying (for me personally), I find the range quite good being the best option for days when frequent touch ups won’t be possible. Neat lip swatch!
