Cinique Chubby Sticks Whole Lotta Color (3) Clinique Chubby Sticks Whole Lotta Color: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Shilpa

Yaaaawwwwn! Another Chubby Stick Review on P&B? If this is what is going through your mind, honestly, I can’t fault you. But since this is the season for splurging, I thought it is the best time to share something indulgent for inspiration! If nothing else, the pictures popping with hot pink should definitely make you smile :)

Also, since there isn’t much all of us don’t know about these babies, this post will be less of a review and more of a visual treat (hopefully!)

So the context is that I am a lip balm / lip gloss kind of person so the original Chubby Sticks were heaven sent for me! I went on a mega collection spree end of last year and acquired this gift set sometime in March this year. This was part of Clinique’s gifting sets for the holiday season last year.

What Clinique says,” Give lips mouth-watering moisture and a hint of soft shine. Five juicy shades of award-winning Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm are just what dry, delicate lips need to feel comfortably soft and smooth. In a range of versatile hues, including two new shades.

Shades include: Richer Raisin, Curvy Candy, Chunky Cherry, Super Strawberry, Oversize Orange (0.04 oz. each).”

My experience with the product:

I loved the hot pink + silver box of the set! It looked beautiful with that pink ribbon, glistening on the pristine white Clinique counter calling out to me :) The shades are as follows:

Super Strawberry: Beautiful berry red-pink. Clinique’s Chubby Chatter (official Chubby news) says that this is the most popular Chubby Stick shade in the USA. It seems to be a universally flattering shade.

Curvy Candy: Clinique describes this as a sheer bubble-gum pink and it’s the youngest, most happy-go-lucky shade in this gift set. Beautiful for casual outings but is partial towards lighter skin tones.

Chunky Cherry: Is Europe’s favorite, being the bestselling shade in Italy, France and Spain. It is a beautiful, sheer cherry red. Between this and Super Strawberry, I am biased towards the latter, it’s a slightly more unconventional shade.

Oversized Orange: While Clinique says this is a sheer peach, this color is the ‘joker’ of the pack according to me. Not expecting as much from it as I tend to stick to safer pinks and neutrals, I was very pleasantly surprised to find a very wearable orange. Good to take baby steps towards bolder colors!

Richer Raisin: A deep, rich brown but not my cup of coffee as it looks too mature a shade! I have been looking for someone to gift this to.

What Works

  • Luscious lips!
  • Great size to carry around and actually finish with use!
  • Classy packaging
  • Convenient – no sharpening needed!
  • Easy-peasy application can be done even without a mirror
  • Moisturizing, but not overly so
  • Allergy tested, fragrance free
  • Beautiful shades – buildable, but mostly sheer
  • Fades away gracefully – non patchy

What May Not Work

  • These are quite sheer, so appropriate mostly for day wear (For more opaque shades, check out Chubby Sticks Intense, review here)
  • Expensive!

Rating: A

Price: Approx INR 2200

Recommendation: Ideal for that hint of sheer color, making your lips look luscious, moisturized and happy to smile. These are the original crayons and worth investing in, if you are saving up to splurge on yourself!

The pics are indeed nice Shilpa. And I can vouch for the easy-peasy application. Who needs a mirror and a lipstick for that touchup after lunch? Nah. Its much cooler to do it without one at your table itself. The sheerness of a chubby stick is more forgiving than a proper lipstick. And the front camera of the iphone comes in handy to ensure that I dont end up looking like a clown. :)

Thanks Anam :) Couldn’t agree more on the convenience aspect! And the iPhone front camera as ‘check up’ tool is so cool! (That rhymed!) I must be the only ignorant girl in the world not making use of it!

I think its because of the many chubby stick reviews on P&B that I went out and bought Curviest Caramel, and it hasn’t left my lips since!

Shilpa October 26, 2013 at 10:43 am

:) It’s my favorite shade too Shrutilaya! I remember you commented on the Curviest Caramel review I did for P&B :) [mostly coz of your unusual and pretty name!]
