Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan (5)Forest Essentials Facial Ubtan Soundarya Review

Product Benefits: Forest Essentials Soundarya is a powerful exfoliating treatment that stimulates the underlying tissues of the skin. By its revitalizing, refreshing & refining actions, this ‘Ubtan’ gives a natural glow to the complexion. Its regular usage prevents the occurrence of premature fine lines, improves skin texture, giving skin a smooth radiant finish.

How to use: Take half teaspoon and mix with yoghurt or rosewater to make a creamy paste. Use to wash face. Rinse well.
USP:• 100% pure and organically grown natural herbs • Made with traditional method of grinding.

Forest Essentials used to be my most loved brand around this time last year. Most of the skincare products on my shelf have been Forest Essentials but my love liking has outgrown in the last few months. Few of their products didn’t quite live up to my high expectations (I still LOVE their Lip Balms ! Best ever I have tried) and one such product is Forest Essentials Facial Ubtan Soundarya.

When I got the  Forest Essentials Facial Ubtan Soundarya, I didn’t know what was its actual use, I confused it wit a face mask and sadly the Forest Essentials SA did not correct me. Allow me to tell you what an “Ubtan” really is if you haven’t heard of it – it is basically a face wash! Though it can be used as a face mask/scrub but it isn’t best way to use it, even for a face wash it is actually very high maintenance & little troublesome to use everyday when you have 2 minutes to cleanse your face.

Forest Essentials Facial Ubtan Soundarya has a grainy/coarse texture which looks like Multani Mitti mixed with few herbs. It has bitter orange+multani mitti fragrance. Since, it is has a grainy texture, it needs to be used over the sink because of the fallout & mess it creates whether it is used as a face wash/mask/scrub. As a face mask/scrub, it takes relatively longer time to dry as compared to regular ones available in the market.

As far as the results are concerned, I am highly disappointed. This ubtan does not meet the tall claims which the brand claimed above. When used as a face mask, it does tighten & brighten the skin but that experience lasts overnight only, the skin goes back to its usual self the next day. The tightening & brightening effects are much better when I simply scrub my face with a tomato slice dipped in sugar granules. When used as a face wash, it gets rid of dirt & impurities but remains ineffective in getting rid of excess oil off the skin.

Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan (2)Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan (3)Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan (4)Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan (1)Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan (6)

1. Made from 100% natural ingredients
2. Huge quantity which lasts for longer even when used everyday
3. Tightens & brightens skin when used as face mask
4. Can be used as cleanser/mask/scrub

1. Wide jar opening is not the most convenient way to use
2. Needs to be used over the skin – high maintainence
3. Tall claims made are not met
4. Not effective when used as face cleanser

Rating: B-

Price: Rs. 595

Recommendation: Forest Essentials Facial Ubtan Soundarya is a great example that sometimes even the best of brands do not make the best of products. The Soundarya Ubtan has a grainy texture which is not so ideal to be used as cleanser or mask. It does scrub the skin well, but the results does not last for long. If you are looking fora  mild cleanser then this could work for you but the process of using it daily is very time consuming.

Aw! Very grainy texture!! Great review

Priya November 5, 2013 at 6:02 pm

True! It’s quite grainy!

Awwww surprised to hear that FE has also started making tall claims that aren’t met :(
I use a number of products and I’m very satisfied with almost all. Then again I always have had good skin so I guess I can’t say if all their claims of magic are really met. Good review Priya! This is definitely one product I’m not buying from their assortment.

Priya November 5, 2013 at 6:04 pm

I had same views Ankita last year ! Every other product I had was from FE! Soon I realized I was bit too partial towards the brand ;) u can surely skip this one

Krithi November 5, 2013 at 11:32 am

I have used this n did nothing
Hated using it cos it’s messy

Priya November 5, 2013 at 6:05 pm

I couldn’t agree more krithi!

Xuvious November 5, 2013 at 12:37 pm

I’ve found FE products to be very hit and miss. Definitely not a brand I can buy from without reading reviews.

Priya November 5, 2013 at 6:06 pm

Exactly you need some info beforehand. These products are not so cheap either after all

Gayatri November 5, 2013 at 1:04 pm

That’s a disappointment! I just bought an ubtan from FE myself but that’s narangi and nagsekar. I’ve heard some great things about it esp that it helps to get rid of blemishes. I hope my husband is compatible with its messiness!! :((

Priya November 5, 2013 at 6:07 pm

Let me know how it works for you…. U really think men are so patient to try ubtans? Good luck !

Ranjita November 5, 2013 at 3:20 pm

I had a similar experience with Tejaswi Milk ubtan from FE.. Got it after seeing the rave reviews on the web.. But it broke me out very badly.. tried it again another couple of times and the same result again.. and my skin is not even that sensitive..This one product has been enough to keep me away as far as possible from Forest Essentials..

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:26 pm

awww… all products are not bad ranjita… I love their lip balms may be u can check that out…Sweet narangi is the best!

Supria November 5, 2013 at 3:28 pm

Looks too gritty. Nobody should rub their face with grainy stuff!

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:23 pm

It doesnt feel harsh though!

sahana November 5, 2013 at 4:15 pm

I have heard a LOT about their Ubtans. Was meaning to try one, but I have a query, are they paraben free?

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:22 pm

yes they are paraben free

Tamanna November 5, 2013 at 4:43 pm

It’s a pity it didn’t work for you…it worked reasonably well for me though my favourite has to be Narangi and Nagkesar Ubtan. But yes, even the best of brands have their duds and FE is no exception.

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:21 pm

I keep on hearing Narangi one is good… I am getting tempted to try it out… lol but these ubtans are really high maintenance!

Shireen November 5, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Thank god i read the review. I was actually very keen on buying this one since Forest Essentials is one of my fav brands too.

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:17 pm

U can surely skip this one Shireen

Kayennat November 5, 2013 at 5:52 pm

I haven’t used this one yet but I love the Tejaswini one! It gives me such glowing skin (I do use it as a mask though)

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:15 pm

oh nice to know Tejaswini works!

Tanmayee November 5, 2013 at 7:45 pm

never tried FE products ..nice review..

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:13 pm

do checkout their lip balms if not anything else!

Gayatri November 5, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Lol priya! I know I was sooo confused while buying it but then I thought let’s see how patient he is!! Anyway Jokes apart.. He generally uses anything that I bring for him :) let’s see the results!

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:13 pm

thats so great gayatri…I couldn’t even make my husband use FE’s shampoo & conditioner! He refuses to use cos it does not lather!

Mayuri November 5, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Honestly for me inexpensive ubtans bought from a local chemists and manufactures by small pharma companies have worked great and I would think twice before buying Ubtan from FE which is pretty expensive. :( I appreciate your nice and honest review :)

Mayuri November 5, 2013 at 8:53 pm

manufactured* by .. *typo* :(

Priya November 5, 2013 at 10:30 pm

U r right mayuri! I remember using simpler products in my college days n my skin was good as today… Actually it should be like that only sticking to products that suit you no matter if its expensive or not!

KG November 5, 2013 at 11:09 pm

I use all my Forest Essentials ubtans with the Clarisonic and they are fantastic. I know that not everyone would use them the same way (or have the Clarisonic) – I put a pinch of the ubtan with a little bit of a super mild face wash ( or Dr Bronner’s magic soap) to exfoliate maybe twice a week. The graininess of ubtans actually helps make them a better exfoliant this way. Sorry to hear you didn’t like this product!

Jyoti November 6, 2013 at 9:30 am

Earlier i was planning to buy this one out, now i guess it’s better to skip this one :) though nice review :)

Sherin November 6, 2013 at 9:41 am

I have used this product and i was very happy with the result i obtained after using this ubtan. The only thing i didnt like about the ubtan was its smell. Otherwise its a great product.

Vineetha November 6, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Oh I kind of like this one. usually use it as a mask with curd. It has worked well for me….

saloni May 15, 2015 at 2:03 pm

Sorry to hear that it did not work for you. I am using it from the last 2 weeks and my skin has never been so great before . I am totally loving forest essential products. 100% natural and effective. I have an oily skin and I either use it with curd or rosewater.
