Lakme Absolute Forever Silk Eye Liner In Earth Line: Swatches & Review

Guest Review By Adi

I think we underestimate the power of a classic brown eye liner. Atleast I know I did. Brown liners aren’t quite as severe as black liners and yet they’re great for giving almost the same amount of definition without looking too bold. This review focuses on a beautiful brown eye liner from Lakme – the Lakme Absolute Forever Silk Eye Liner and the shade I’ll be reviewing is aptly called ‘Earth Line’.

Claims of the product: These water resistant metallic hues come infused in a creamy dollop of color to create an incredible shimmer and shine. It’s also enriched with Vitamin E to keeps lids soft and smooth. Lasts for up to 8 hours. Smudge proof.

My take on the product:

The eyeliner comes in a plastic retractable pencil form but wait, there’s more to the packaging than meets the eye! The eyeliner only twists up about half a centimeter or so at a time – apparently this is to avoid drying. (This is great for me because I twist up my eyeliner pencils too much and end up breaking them :P) however the initially ‘pointy’ liner does become blunt after the first use and there’s no way to get the tip back :P so yeah, drawing thin lines with this is a wee bit tricky.

The shade ‘Earth Line’ is a gorgeous deep chocolate brown. The pigmentation of the eyeliner is really good; one swipe is enough for the full intensity of the colour to show up. The finish is really lovely, it’s smooth and velvety and somewhat matte.

It takes a minute or two to set to a smudge proof finish, before that you can smudge it for a smokey brown look. Once it sets, it wears for about 5-6 hours easily, with pretty much no smudging or flaking. It’s waterproof too. You’ll need a decent makeup remover to remove all traces of this liner.

BUT when I tried this on my waterline, it definitely irritated my eyes. In fact, I had to remove it after a bit because it was – I wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘stinging’, but yeah it definitely bothered me. I wear contact lenses but I don’t think that’s the problem. So yes, I wasn’t very happy about that part. However you can use it on the lower lash line. On the waterline, it’s a no-no, atleast for me! Also I think the price slightly on the higher side given that there’s only 0.28 g of product.

Why you’ll love it:

  • Smooth texture
  • Easy to apply
  • Highly pigmented
  • Velvety matte finish
  • Waterproof and smudge proof
  • Unique mechanism makes sure that the product is not wasted
  • Wears for about 5-6 hours without smudging or flaking

Why you’ll hate it:

  • Slightly overpriced
  • Stings slightly if used on the waterline

Rating: B+

Price: Rs 410

Final recommendation: Earth Line is a beautiful deep brown shade that will flatter all skin tones. Plus the staying power of the eye liner is what makes it stand out. It’s a bit expensive relative to other similar eye liners in the market but it’s absolutely worth every penny and I highly recommend it!
