Guest Review By Shilpa
Lush and Sephora are my go to places when I am keen to indulge! And last month being birthday and Diwali month gave me ample opportunity to do that. Usually I know what I want (especially from Lush) but this time I was willing to be surprised and decided to ask the SA for her recommendations. That’s when she introduced me to Catastrophe Cosmetic (CC henceforth, not to be confused with CC creams ) One of their best sellers, this is what Lush says about it!
What Lush says about Catastrophe Cosmetic: Still learning about proper skin care? No need to be embarrassed. After all, every face has different needs! We recommend starting here. Prevent disasters by taking regular care with our deep cleaning blueberry mask, Catastrophe Cosmetic. The little blue bulbs are packed with vitamins, with a gentle calamine base to cleanse the skin without stripping it of its natural oils. Use this one weekly as a deep cleansing treatment to kick off your regular skin care routine.
How to use? Cleanse your face and pat dry. Smooth a good dollop of Fresh Face Mask over your entire face, making sure to avoid the eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for about ten minutes (do not let the mask dry completely). And finally, wash off with warm water and follow with your favorite toner and moisturizer.
My Experience with the Lush Fresh Face Mask : Catastrophe Cosmetic
Jumping straight in, it comes in the usual Lush pot that is recyclable and has all the info you need to know on the pack (who made it, what are the ingredients, how to use, when to use etc etc). I collect Lush pots since I am Lushie (Lush fan, for the uninitiated) and you can exchange 5 empty for a new one.
The mask looks like a mud pack, greyish in color with flakes of blueberry in it. It is quite smooth and application / spread-ability is not an issue. Smells of blueberries but quite faint and non-intrusive. It dries off rather quickly (within 10-15 minutes depending on the weather), and starts to flake (the skins of blueberries start dropping off your face!)
My skin is reasonably well behaved so I wasn’t expecting any miracles but I wasn’t very impressed either. It definitely does what it claims, deep cleanses, tightens and refreshes the skin. The SA told me its very effective for troubled skin with acne or redness and helps to control it but I cant vouch for that!
While I love the “freshness” of Lush and the fact they are preservative free, the short (a month) best before period is a bit extreme to handle – having to apply it almost 2-3 a week!
- Smoothens, softens and refreshes skin
- Tightens the skin
- A little goes a long way
- Subtle, pleasing fragrance
- Wont irritate skin
- Not tested on animals
- Preservative free
- The put down price is quite high (much less in US and UK, but these cant travel as they do not have preservative)
- Short use-by date (as they are preservative free, but keeping in the refrigerator helps)
- Not miraculous for normally behaved skin (read the recommendation)
Price: Around INR 500 (lushindia.com is down for the last 3 months!)
Recommendation: The Lush Fresh Face Mask Catastrophe Cosmetic deep cleanses, freshens, tightens, smoothens skin and without any artificial, chemical ingredients but is quite expensive and comes with a short “best before” date, good to try if you acne or redness. Otherwise, several more pocket friendly masks are available for consideration!
