Cleansing is the first step of any skin care regime. I am blessed with oily and blemish prone skin :-D and I always am in search of such skin care products which are suitable for my skin type. Last winters when I visited The Body SHop outlet to purchase Strawberry Body Butter, TBS Tea Tree range of products immediately caught my attention with their claims of helping blemish prone skin types. Being impressed with it I rushed to the counter and purchased Tea Tree Toner (which I’ve already used up) and tea Tree Facial Wash about which I am going to write here.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: This daily-use facial wash for blemished skin gives clearer-looking skin when used as part of a regular regime.
• Removes excess oil without over-drying skin
• Helps remove impurities
• Clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin
Texture: This facial wash has a gel like runny consistency and is green in colour.
Smell: It smells mildly of Tea Tree oil, however the fragrance vanishes once you wash it off.
Packaging: This facial wash comes in transparent plastic bottle with a plastic screw cap. This cap has a hole which again is secured with a flip top stopper. Packaging is a bit bulky but is sturdy and hygienic.
My take on the product:
Good points first. This face wash feels mild and gentle on skin and never strips moisture from my skin. Its gel like texture is very light and it smells mildly of tea tree which is refreshing. Immediately after applying this face wash I feel a cooling effect which really feels nice.
Now my rants- This face wash doesn’t lathers well and also to wash it off I have to splash a lot of water, otherwise I experience that sticky and slippery feeling which is really a turn-off. Probably due to the reason that it didn’t lather well I never get that squeaky clean feel after a single usage of the product, so I always ended up washing my face twice or in some instances even thriceL. Due to this reason every time I feel that Iam using more quantity of the product than what I use to do with my regular cleanser( read CIinique cleanser for skin type 3 here). Now another concern is regarding claims of checking break-outs and blemishes-I have to say that it not effective either- it neither clears blemishes nor does prevent acne/zits. So all in all a below average product from The Body Shop.
Yays of TBS Tea Tree Facial Wash:
- Gentle face wash-light weight and mild fragrance.
- Never dries my skin.
- Cooling sensation which really feels soothing and refreshing.
- Hygienic and sturdy packaging.
Nays of TBS Tea Tree Facial Wash:
- Post usage you experience that slippery feel if you don’t wash it off with lots of water.
- It doesn’t do what it claims- be it prevention of break-outs or control of excess oil or clarifying impurities/blemishes.
- Never gives that squeaky clean feel.
Recommendation: To summarize I must say that Iam really disappointed with the Body Shop Tea Tree Face Wash. It makes tall claims of clarifying skin- but it is a total dud. Leave alone clearing blemishes and acne it even fails as an effective cleanser. It is a bit over hyped in my opinion.
