The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash Review (3) The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash Review

Cleansing is the first step of any skin care regime. I am blessed with oily and blemish prone skin :-D and I always am in search of such skin care products which are suitable for my skin type. Last winters when I visited The Body SHop outlet to purchase Strawberry Body Butter, TBS Tea Tree range of products immediately caught my attention with their claims  of helping blemish prone skin types. Being impressed with it I rushed to the counter and purchased Tea Tree Toner (which I’ve already used up) and tea Tree Facial Wash about which I am going to write here.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: This daily-use facial wash for blemished skin gives clearer-looking skin when used as part of a regular regime.

• Removes excess oil without over-drying skin
• Helps remove impurities
• Clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin

Texture: This facial wash has a  gel like runny consistency and is green in colour.

Smell: It smells mildly of Tea Tree oil, however the fragrance vanishes once you wash it off.

Packaging: This facial wash comes in transparent plastic bottle with a plastic screw cap. This cap has a hole which again is secured with a flip top stopper. Packaging is a bit bulky but is sturdy and hygienic.

My take on the product:

Good points first. This face wash feels mild and gentle on skin and never strips moisture from my skin. Its gel like texture is very light and it smells mildly of tea tree which is refreshing. Immediately after applying this face wash I feel a cooling effect which really feels nice.

Now my rants- This face wash doesn’t lathers well and also to wash it off I have to splash a lot of water, otherwise I experience that sticky and slippery feeling which is really a turn-off. Probably due to the reason that it didn’t lather well I never get that squeaky clean feel after a single usage of the product, so I always ended up washing my face twice or in some instances even thriceL. Due to this reason every time I feel that Iam using more quantity of the product than what I use to do with my regular cleanser( read CIinique cleanser for skin type 3 here). Now another concern is regarding claims of checking break-outs and blemishes-I have to say that it not effective either- it neither clears blemishes nor does prevent acne/zits. So all in all a below average product from The Body Shop.

Yays of TBS Tea Tree Facial Wash:

  • Gentle face wash-light weight and mild fragrance.
  • Never dries my skin.
  • Cooling sensation which really feels soothing and refreshing.
  • Hygienic and sturdy packaging.

Nays of TBS Tea Tree Facial Wash:

  • Post usage you experience that slippery feel if you don’t wash it off with lots of water.
  • It doesn’t do what it claims- be it prevention of break-outs or control of excess oil or clarifying impurities/blemishes.
  • Never gives that squeaky clean feel.

Rating: B-

Price: Rs.595/-

Recommendation: To summarize I must say that Iam really disappointed with the Body Shop Tea Tree Face Wash. It makes tall claims of clarifying skin- but it is a total dud. Leave alone clearing blemishes and acne it even fails as an effective cleanser. It is a bit over hyped in my opinion.

Xuvious February 6, 2014 at 1:17 pm

Harine February 6, 2014 at 4:56 pm

Not a fan of slippery face wash

Nausheen February 6, 2014 at 8:00 pm

Me too…it is also not an eco-friendly face wash…as u need lots of water to rinse it off :D

Preeti Kaur February 6, 2014 at 5:06 pm

Although popular for combating acne and blemishes, tea tree oil or products with tea tree oil never suited me :( Lavender oil works the best for acne.
Thanks for sharing the review Nausheen :)

Nausheen February 6, 2014 at 8:01 pm

I will now get Lavender oil based products for me…thanx for the tip Preeti.

Rashmi February 6, 2014 at 6:15 pm

Sumathi February 6, 2014 at 6:43 pm

A lazy girl like me would get super tired by washing the face again and again :P
I always wanted to try the tea tree range, but I never did cos I found them a little expensive.
Glad I did not.

Nausheen February 6, 2014 at 8:08 pm

Yes Sumathi it is pain to wash it off fully.

Gowthami February 6, 2014 at 7:21 pm

Bhuvana February 6, 2014 at 10:41 pm

Maitreyee February 7, 2014 at 12:27 am

Yes, most annoying to wash. Love the after-wash tingly feel though. but heavy on the pocket.

nausheen February 7, 2014 at 10:02 am

Yes thats true…

Supria February 7, 2014 at 8:40 am

Nice straightforward review :) Will keep this in mind!

nausheen February 7, 2014 at 10:01 am

coralcrue February 7, 2014 at 8:43 am

good, honest review. Loved the clicks!

nausheen February 7, 2014 at 10:00 am

Laks February 7, 2014 at 12:55 pm

I have used it ones when my cousin bought it :D . I liked the mild fragrance of The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial. As u said the slippery feeling stays after the wash and you need to keep washing for a couple for minutes.

nausheen February 7, 2014 at 7:36 pm

And that is the most irritating thing about this facewash…isnt it laks?

Laks February 9, 2014 at 6:20 pm

Exactly Nausheen :/

Rupamudra Kataki February 7, 2014 at 4:46 pm

I cannot agree more. With the promise of being packed with the goodness of tea tree oil, I was duped into buying the product. After almost a month of religiously cleansing my face with it I see no signs of improvement–my acnes outbreak remains the same and blemishes are as dark as ever!

nausheen February 7, 2014 at 7:35 pm

Yes Rupa it really sucks when we buy something and it turn into a bummer.

Parinaaz February 7, 2014 at 9:09 pm

What a dud is this product!! Glad to read an honest review

nausheen February 7, 2014 at 9:40 pm

Glad you liked it Pari.

Arzoo February 7, 2014 at 9:43 pm
