Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte 104 (4) Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick #104: Swatches & Review

The Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte range is quite raved about in the blogosphere and having seen and heard all good things about this range, it was quite hard to hold my horses  so I eventually caved and bought two lipsticks from this collection 109 review here and 104 on BOGO on 50% off.

I have picked this as one of the lipsticks on BOGO because it was touted to be drugstore dupe for MAC Twig by most of the bloggers.

The shade 104 is a deep rosy pink with plummy sort of violet undertone, in short it can be called as pinky brown lipstick. The shade itself is the buying factor for this lipstick, trust me it is quite a flattering shade when you swatch it on your hand (though testers are not available in US, I manage to swatch them chupke chupke ;) ) This shade works as an MLBB for some, a plummy pink for some and may wash some out as well.

The finish is semi-matte, I usually apply it in dabbing motion, blot and set it with a lip brush and sometimes with fingers which is a lot of effort. However, this lipstick takes close to an hour to set and behaves like a perfect matte lipstick on the lips. Pigmentation is good but doesn’t fetch much for pigmented lips, I guess it is the medium coverage property of this lipstick that makes it not suitable for some skin tones mostly dusky ones with pigmented lips.

The staying power is decent for 3-4hrs without meals, it fades evenly and feels dry. My biggest complaint with this lipstick is that it badly settles in to fine lines which looks like I have put on some bad quality lipstick.

P.S: Below are the swatches of other Lipsticks that are available in Rimmel London Kate Moss Collection

R swatches

  • Perfect MLBB/office wear shade
  • Classy and sturdy packaging
  • Semi-matte and turns matte on blotting
  • Suits well for fair to medium skin tones
  • Application is smooth
  • Affordable
  • Fruity sweet smell (It may be a con for some)

  • Settles in to fine lines
  • Feels powdery and flaky, reapplication needed
  • Do not give full coverage for pigmented lips
  • May wash out dusky skin tones

Rating: B+

Price: 4.99$ (I got it for 50% off)

Will I Repurchase: No (can’t stand lipsticks that settle in fine lines)

Recommendation:Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte 104” is a pretty rosy pinky brownish shade which works as a perfect MLBB, it serves the purpose of a matte lipstick and at the price they are coming for they are an awesome buy. I dont particularly love how it settles into line.

Shweta Shrivastava July 12, 2014 at 4:00 pm

I have used shade 109. It is very pretty but yes, it does settle in fine lines. It also tends to make lips dry and stiff. Love the red packaging though

Anusha July 12, 2014 at 8:59 pm

Sadly it does :( otherwise I love this collection.

laks July 12, 2014 at 4:13 pm

lovely shade for daily wear, would love to give it a try.

Kamana@SocialandStyle July 13, 2014 at 12:06 am

Love the photos. I tried shade 109 and loved it for it’s semi matte look. I wore Prep + Prime Lip before wearing the lipstick and didn’t notice it steeping into fine lines. With the lip prep the shade looked smooth and provided good coverage.

Anusha July 13, 2014 at 3:38 am

Thanks Kamana. Sounds great!

really good dupe you have found, I wanna try one from this range :)

E July 17, 2014 at 7:45 pm

What do you mean by settling into fine lines?

I have the Rimmel, Kate Moss 20. Similar to your experience- it gets a bit flaky and does not glide as smoothly as other brands. But I do like its smell…it has a distinct smell lol

Anusha July 22, 2014 at 1:25 am

Hi E,
settling in to lines typically means lipstick settles in to vertical lip lines and looks unflattering. This quality of a lipstick is a downside.
