Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop Lip Balm in Pink Shock Review (3) Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop Lip Balm in Pink Shock Review

Those folks over at Maybelline sure have a great marketing team. Have you seen the ads for the Rebel Bouquet collection? All those gorgeous floral prints and bright colours. Sigh. I for one can’t wait. And, c’mon – Rebel Bouquet? I’ll take all of those please! The Electro Pop lip balm is a product very smartly designed to tap into the lip balm/lip colour market that has exploded in the last few years. And very rightly so, I might add. The Electro Pop balm in Pink Shock is a great product that is pretty much a sheer lipstick pretending to be a balm. It looks very much like many lipstick-balms out there and performs pretty much the same. It just does it at the price of a balm.

Colour: Maybelline Electro Pop in Pink Shock is indeed shockingly pink for a lip balm. Seriously! I almost didn’t believe it when I first wore it. It has the kind of colour payoff that the Nyx Lip Spa does and rather more than some of the lipbalms-in-lipstick-packaging. The colour is bright neutral to cool-toned pink and has a very watery finish.

Texture: When I first put it on, my immediate thought was that balm reminded of the Clinique Chubby Sticks (which are still my favourite of all the lip crayons), but it’s actually way more moisturizing. In fact, I find these to be smoother and more moisturizing than the regular baby lips. Those always seem a tad gritty to me and don’t moisturize like a heavy duty lip balm. Now, this doesn’t moisturize for 8 hours as claimed either, but it stays for around 2-3 hours without eating/drinking, which for a lip balm is quite amazing. The lips feel soft and supple after.

Packaging:  Finally! Finally we get the cool tubes with the Electro Shock balms that Maybelline for god knows what reason had decided not to launch with the regular balms. The black + neon combination is very attractive and the makes me feel like a 16 year old again!

Pros:

  • Great colour payoff
  • Moisturizes well
  • Fun packaging
  • Is almost a lipstick

Cons:

  • Can’t think of any except perhaps the price (but since it’s almost a lipstick, I don’t really begrudge that)

Rating: A+

Price: Rs. 165

Recommendation: Maybelline Electro Shock Lip Balm in Pink Shock is a great lip colour that moisturizes really well. It will be particularly handy for the really heavy summer days when you don’t feel wearing any makeup but could do with a pick me up.
