Guest Review by Simran Bandwar (Skin type – Normal to dry, Skin tone – Light)

Liquid lipsticks are the newest obsession in the makeup industry. Their formulation is smooth, they provide great pigmentation, they have great staying power and they don’t melt down on your face in the rather harsh Indian weather. The newest launch by Revlon is also a liquid lipstick; it is the Revlon Ultra HD Matte lipcolor. And I will be reviewing the shade HD Devotion.

Claims : Lightweight, high definition velvety matte colour. Moisturizing, velvety feel. 100% wax-free, gel formula. Creamy mango and whipped vanilla fragrance with a plush velvety applicator.

Shelf life : 3 years.

Packaging : The packaging is quite attractive in my opinion. The liquid lipstick comes in a slender plastic cylindrical tube and the shade of the lipstick is visible through it. The cap is silver in colour and is in a screw-shut form. It is durable and leak-proof. The SA offered me a carry-on pouch with the lipstick.

Texture & colour : The texture of the liquid lipstick is smooth and it applies with ease. A single coat is enough since the pigmentation is nice. The finish of the lipstick is a velvet matte, it does not transform into a complete matte; you need to dab the excess lipstick off with a tissue to make it completely matte. The shade of the lipstick is a gentle cool toned pink which will look stunning on lighter skin tones.

My take on the product : I had seen this liquid lipstick doing the rounds on social media and decided to give it a go. The lipstick is available in India in 8 shades, from pinks to nudes to darker shades; the selection is wide. The fragrance is gorgeous, it is a mix of vanilla and mango. I decided to buy HD Devotion from the range since it is a cool toned pink colour which suited my skin tone the best. It is my everyday go-to lipstick option and is suitable for college-going girls.

I would not recommend it to girls with medium to dark skin tones. Shade HD Seduction from the range will be more suitable for darker complexions. The lipstick does not settle into fine lines or bleed. The formulation isn’t drying but I would recommend prepping your lips with a lip balm first. One swipe is enough to achieve its colour to the fullest. The doe foot applicator of the lipstick is a bonus since it is velvety soft and helps in efficiently lining your cupids bow and filling in your lips. It will last you the whole day including a meal.

It is high on budget but liquid lipsticks are generally costlier than their normal bullet lipstick counterparts. But, this lipstick is one of the best options available in India in the liquid lipstick category. I won’t say that the quantity offered at the price is great but I have used this lipstick for over 1.5 months and even after using it daily, the bottle is not even close to finishing.

Pros :

  • Velvety smooth texture
  • Great doe foot applicator
  • Commendable lasting power
  • Pleasing fragrance
  • Wide variety of shades available
  • Does not dry out lips

Cons :

  • Not budget friendly
  • Not completely matte

Verdict : A +

Price : INR 1195 for 5.9 ML

Recommendation : I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to try out liquid lipsticks. It is smooth on the lips and easy to apply. I would love to purchase more shades from the range!

I somehow don’t like the texture on these. It takes forever to dry and feels sticky! it’s sad cz I wanted it to work for me as it has good shade range!

Sad to hear that the texture didn’t work for you Surabhi :(
You can try Chambor extreme wear transfer proof lipstick rather than this! :)

I have one shade from this range and the finish is something I dont like much, but the color range is good! Nice review :)

I tried an Ultra HD lip lacquer from Revlon recently, and while I loved the color, I found that it wiped off very easily and required too many touch ups for my liking. However, that one was not claimed to have a matte finish. I wonder if a matte like this one would have better longevity on me, (even if it is not a true matte after all).

Thank you for your comment Chris.
The HD lip lacquer gives a glossy finish. I did try it at the counter.
The longevity of the HD Matte is amazing! :) x

such a beautiful shade! wish it was completely matte though but yeah i guess that can be taken care of by blotting it like you suggested :) great review x

It’s a velvet matte but blotting off the excess by a tissue always works and it doesn’t take away the pigmentation at all.
Thank-you for your comment Aditi :D
