Maybelline has recently launched their vivid matte lipstick range in India and I was really eager to try out this range as soon as I heard the news. So, I picked one on my last visit to the Maybelline counter. Today I delightedly share my review on the Maybelline vivid matte lipstick in the shade Scarlet Red.

Packaging : It comes in a matte jet black bullet with a frosted deep red coloured cap. The brand name “Maybelline” is written on the matte black case which makes it so elegant and classy. The shade name is written at the bottom in a colour coordinated paper. The cap shuts with a click sound which is very satisfying to hear.

Shade : Scarlet red is a brilliant red colour with orange undertones. A hint of orange makes it more wearable and instantly wakes up the complexion. It is a completely festive shade. It goes stunningly well with a classic winged eyeliner.

Pigmentation : It is insanely pigmented; one swipe gives colour to the fullest. It covers my pigmented lips in 1-2 swipes. It is fully opaque and gives even coverage from the first application.

Texture: It is not a flat powdery matte,  rather a moist matte and does not set down to a dry flat matte finish. The texture is so nice and smooth that it glides without tugging and pulling. Most hydrating matte lipstick I have ever come across! It doesn’t have shimmer in it. It has a very hydrating smooth formula which looks matte but stays comfortably on the lips. It doesn’t settle into lines or emphasize the dryness of lips. It doesn’t need any lip balm underneath either.

Staying power : As it is a glossy matte, it tends to transfer and move. It stays put on my lips for 4+ hours with minimal snacking and drinking in between but doesn’t survive full meals. It disappears, leaving a beautiful stain behind.

Pros:

  • Bright and vivid shade range
  • Affordable.
  • Smooth non drying formula, hydrating on lips, doesn’t need any lip balm underneath.
  • Super comfortable matte finish.
  • Insanely pigmented, silky smooth texture gives full coverage in just one swipe.
  • Classy and travel friendly packaging.
  • Easily available both online and off-line.

Cons:

  • Only 4 shades (No nudes, browns, berry and wines shades)
  • Does transfer.
  • Not long wearing, doesn’t stay as long as other matte lipsticks.

Verdict : A

Price : INR 475 for 3.9 gm.

Recommendation : I am really enjoying wearing this lipstick nowadays because it is already fall and this doesn’t make my lips dry and patchy. I think with this range, we can carry bright matte lips in the winter as well. I highly recommend everyone to give it a try.
