Picture this : A bride-to-be is looking for makeup inspiration on social media (pretty standard !). She finds a photograph of a gorgeous bride and wants to recreate that look. BUT the picture is of a friend’s friend or some other distant connection. She can’t really e-mail her and request a list of products used (the bride is probably enjoying her honeymoon). Maybe the picture is shared by the photographer. While they’ll be happy to talk about cameras, flash and angles, makeup isn’t their forte. Then how does our bride-to-be figure out which highlighter is responsible for that incredible glow ? Which lipstick is that lovely shade of red ?
The answer is the Makeup Artist whose magical fingers (and brushes :P) were responsible for creating that look in the first place ! So to make your search for the perfect bridal look hassle free, P&B brings you all the dope from real bride Tania’s wedding makeup.
Real Bride : Tania Khosla
Makeup Artist : Simran Kalra
Simran reveals, “Tania was a bride who was very clear about her vision for her wedding look and I am grateful that she trusted me to bring it to life. Having known her since our school days, I had a fair idea of her style sensibility. Tania wanted to honour her grandmother’s vintage jewellery and chose a bespoke hand embroidered old-world peach lehenga. To add to that, she is blessed with the most clear pale skin, long eyelashes and lustrous, thick hair. The makeup and hairstyle had to let her natural features shine!
For her base, I used MAC Strobe Cream as a moisturizer. I then used MAC Face and Body Foundation NC 20 mixed with MAC Prep and Prime Skin for a dewy finish. I also used a MAC cream blush ‘Posey’ for a lit from within flush on her cheeks. I then used MAC Studio Finish concealer NC 35 to correct and brighten under her eyes and around the mouth. To set all the creamy products, a light dusting of MAC Studio Fix Powder NC 30 all over the face was all that was needed.
To add definition to her face, a matte bronzer from Chanel was used to contour and a soft pop of peach blush on her cheeks. For highlight, I used Nars Albatross on the high points of her cheekbones, nose, forehead and chin.
Her eyes were to be the main feature in focus. I started with Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the lid up-to the brow bone. Then using kohl pencil Teddy (MAC), I created a deep shadow around the lash line and in the outer v of the eye. All over the lid I used Woodwinked (MAC) eyeshadow and Embark (MAC) eyeshadow over the smudged kohl pencil, around the lash line and in the outer V. With a softer brown eyeshadow, I feathered out the edges creating a soft smokey look. To add some bling I patted on MAC Reflects glitter in white gold all the way from the inner corner of the eye to the outer 2/3rd of the lid. With Maybelline Gel eyeliner in black, I created a winged eye and a thick kohl look.
Using an eyelash curler is key to well defined eyes and I am partial to the Shu Uemura lash curler. After carefully curling the lashes I coated them in Maybelline Colossal Volum waterproof mascara. I softly defined her eyebrows with a brown eyeshadow and groomed and set them with an eyebrow gel.
On her lips, I used a MAC lip primer and softly lined and filled them with a MAC lip pencil called Lasting Sensation. I then patted on a mix of a fuchsia and orange matte lipstick from Stila to create a soft tint. I then set it all with a waterproof fixing spray from Kryolan.
Her hair was swept away from her face and softly pinned back without any backcombing and with minimal hairspray. The rest of it was pulled into a neat midsize bun. With minimal products and effort, she made for a beautiful bride.”
