Guest review by Anshu Sharma (Skin type – Combination, Skin tone – Wheatish to dusky)
Today I will be reviewing the L’Oreal Star Collection lipstick in “Pure Garnet” endorsed by Sonam Kapoor. Though it was launched last year I thought of reviewing it for those who may still be confused about this shade the same way I was before buying it. After seeing the online swatches, I couldn’t resist and decided to go for it but its high price was putting a dampener on things. Then came Nykaa’s sale to the rescue. Without any delay I ordered it. And here I am with my very honest review.
Ingredients : Jojoba oils, velvet spheres and pure pigments.
Availability : Easily available online on major Indian websites.
Shade : It looks like a deep brownish maroon in the bullet; but when we apply it, its a beautiful deep wine red/ royal maroon shade perfect for winters or night parties. L’Oreal Pure Garnet is perfect for medium to dusky complexion and for lighter skin tones it can look good with subtle makeup.
Packaging : The lipstick comes in a classy and glossy black plastic body with the signature of the star endorsing that particular shade. Pure Garnet is endorsed by Sonam Kapoor. There is a shade button on the bottom part of the lipstick that makes it easy to identify the shade in case you have more than one in your kit from this collection.
Pigmentation : The pigmentation is really nice and one swipe is enough to give you opaque color. Multiple swipes will increase the intensity.
Texture : It is a matte finish lipstick. The bullet glides well on the lips initially, but after 3-4 uses, it starts becoming a little dry in texture. I felt it is a difficult shade to apply. It is not very smooth while applying in comparison with other brands. This shade tends to dry out my lips, making my lips parched after sometime. It does have a tendency to feather a bit.
Staying Power : It stays on for 5-6 hours easily without meals. However, eating a meal will lead to a patchy removal of the lipstick from inner lips that doesn’t look good at all. You have to re-apply the lipstick.
- Beautiful deep wine shade that will suit most Indian skin tones
- Classy and sturdy packaging
- Color-coded button helps in easy identification.
- Fragrance is very mild
- One swipe itself shows the real color on lips.
- Gives a matte finish
- Lasts for 5-6 hours
- Dries out lips
- Feathers and transfers a lot.
- Looks patchy after a meal, inner lips look almost bare.
Verdict : B
Price : Rs. 1025 for 4.2 gms
Recommendation : There is no doubt that it is a beautiful shade, will suit most skin tones and is a great choice for winter or festive season. However, I can find similar shades at a lesser price from other good brands. This is my opinion. Price and quality delivered both are important and for me, L’oreal Pure Garnet did not score well in both. Still, if you want to try it, wait for a sale so that it doesn’t pinch your pocket.
