You know how Bollywood celebrities are always glowing ? Well most often than not, this glow isn’t entirely natural. It is achieved by some amazing highlighters. But which highlighters work for Indian skintones ? Which ones are complete duds and which are worth every penny spent ? To find out we quizzed makeup artist Prerna Khullar and she sweetly obliged. Over to Prerna :

Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit – By far the best highlighter I’ve used. The powder is very finely milled and the glitter particles aren’t chunky at all. The kit has 6 shades in all to help you highlight your brow bone, inner corners of the eyes and cheekbones.

Collective Beauty

Laura Geller Gilded Honey Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator – A lovely caramel honey shade that is super long lasting. It stays on for about 8 hours and has the smoothest, softest formulation you could hope for. Its colour payoff is also quite good.

Beauty and the Chic

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Soft and Gentle) Rs.2600This highlighter has a gorgeous gilded peach bronze colour. It rates high on both pigmentation and longevity. If you want to brighten up your face, this is definitely the product for you.

Kayleigh Couture

Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up – A champagne coloured, soft focus, cream to powder highlighter that applies smoothly over makeup. It gives a very natural highlight to the face. Its intensity can be built up however, if that is the look you’re going for.

The Secret Board

theBalm Mary Lou Manizer – What I love about this highlighter is that its paraben free ! It does a great job adding a subtle sheen to the cheeks and is versatile enough to be used as an eyeshadow. (Psst, this highlighter is now available in India through Nykaa Rs.1699).

Saleha Beauty Hollywood Gold – It lends a soft and subtle grow on the high points of your face (bridge of your nose, inner corner of eyes, cheekbones and brow bone) and makes you look positively radiant. Apply this highlighter with a fan brush for best results.

Affordable Highlighters – P&B Picks

  • Colorbar Radiant Glow Illuminator Pen (Rs.525) – A ‘click it’ highlighter pen which is a gorgeous champagne rose gold color. The best thing about the Colorbar highlighter- it has no glitter. Zero glitter people- shine, not shimmer!
  • Makeup revolution Goddess of Love highlighter (Rs.1050) – A must try highlighter. It gives such natural radiance to the skin that some high end international brands are also not able to achieve.
  • Faces Ultime Pro Illuminating Powder (Rs.650) – The application of the product is very smooth and does not feel patchy. It blends like a dream and is very subtle giving the illusion of a beautiful natural glow from within.
