Getting your own apartment is the first step of Adulting 101. Decorating it and ensuring it looks grown up and sophisticated (on a tight budget) comes a close second. And to help you out with it, we’re giving you a tour of this lovely real home. Details of where the stuff is from can be found at the end of the article.

Shailja says, “As my husband and I are both designers by profession, interior comes as a collective hobby for both of us. Thankfully our choices match and what you see is Parisian meets Nordic which holds inspiration and pieces coming together from all our travels to various countries and experiencing different cultures. Our space essentially has classic tones of grey, white and black. After work, we both like to have our evening tea by the sectional sofa which is my comfortable space with a lot of throw pillows and cozy blankets.

Being design aesthetes, we were very specific about the kind of furniture we wanted so we decided to get them custom made- the sofa, the sideboard and the dining set up; and it all turned out like a dream.

The gallery wall above the sofa has our photographed pictures printed and framed in minimal black frames. You will find multiple corners in the house with beautiful paintings by my husband.

The other side of the room has a full out Parisian sideboard with our blue pottery collection and candle-stands. We did a lot of DIYs to give the place a more rustic look by painting all the frames and mirrors and distressing it using sand paper.

Next to it is a beautiful teak wood bookshelf which is filled with carefully balanced pieces like books, storage boxes, art supplies and other showpieces with a focus light on top.

The dining area is my most favourite part of the house with beautiful vintage upholstered chairs and a shabby chic farmhouse table sitting atop layered dhurrie and a persian carpet. Next to it is a carved wood lamp along with window pane mirror and some victorian paintings on the wall.

Also, we are very fond of plants so there is one on every table and corner of the house. I think its extremely essential to have greens in the house as they add a lot to the decor and soothe the eyes too.

The bedroom has a bit of eclectic indian vibe to it with wrought iron lamps, colorful throw pillows and mid century modern legs patchwork lounge chair.

What makes the study table special is my scratch map that I got as a birthday gift from a friend and marquee light initials of our names. When it comes to home decor, I always make sure that I have the space, mood and the color scheme in mind before I try to fill it up any space. Also, I make it a little personal by adding a hint of DIY and of course have fun with it!

We still have the guest room to do, so if you want to have a look, come see us at @fashnframes and @style_hymn.”
